i need advice re: short term disability

My job does not pay for maternity leave, and I have insurance through my husband's insurance/employer, not my employer.
Do you think that I will be able to get short term disability through my H's insurance to cover part of my pay during my maternity leave, or am i just basically screwed, and will need to come up with the money for this on my own?

Sorry. This is usually only extended to the employee, and there are waiting periods to cover them for existing situations (like pregnancy).

Usually you need to have a short term disability policy in place for 10 months before it can kick in. They do that so you have to get the policy before you get pregnant.

I have short term through my work and it is kind of a joke - 6 weeks or 8 weeks for a c-section but a 30 day exclusionary period so basically 2 or 4 weeks of pay at 60%. Anyways, I am ttc so I looked into this with mine you have to have it before you get pregnant to be covered. I am not sure all are that way or not though. So I would look into that and also if what you can get is as bad as mine figure out what it costs v. what you get.

You can't get STD through his employer, but if you qualify based on income you can get public assistance to pay for bills while on maternity leave.

Do you have a child care plan yet? Most places won't take kids younger than 6 weeks, ime. So you may want to factor that in.

Agreeing with everybody above, STD plans cover the employee only.
