DD has a queen MALM with the drawers under it. I also have an old metal one from IKEA that has lasted 10+ years and is in great condition. It made it through a kid/teenager and is now on our spare room.
We are actually in the process of deciding on and buying a new bed from Ikea. We're looking at the Nyvoll. We thought about buying a bed with drawers for storage space then realized putting it together would be too difficult.
What model do you have? Do you like it? How difficult was it to assemble?
We we were going to buy a fancy new bed this year, but I think we are going to delay that buy a year or two and try to make our current mattress better with a slat bed frame and a memory foam topper. (99 percent sure the problem is our box spring, and a bed frame with slats is less expensive than a split queen box spring.)
H likes the style of the Hemnes bed frame but read it is a major pain to assemble.
We have the Hemnes bed frame. I don't remember it being much worse to assemble than most IKEA things -- definitely easier than the trundle-bed-thing we got for DS! The main issue with it is the wooden slats come in two parts, and they can interlace and then fall through, so when you put it together duct-tape the pairs together to try to keep them in line. Also, we've found that over the years the sides seem to have spread apart a little further, and for a few of the slat-pairs we actually had to duct-tape something in the middle of them to make sure they stay wide enough. If you're looking for something temporary, though, I doubt it should be a problem.
ETA: We have a foam topper from Costco, and really like it too.

Oops, I guess ours isn't the Hemnes. It's not on IKEA's website anymore, but I found a picture of it here, but no name of the model.
DS's daybed *is* a Hemnes daybed, and that was a major PITA to put together, but mostly because of the trundle part I think. Also, two kind of screw-holder things, one slightly bigger than the other -- sort all your parts before getting started! We had to suck them out of the holes with our vaccuum cleaner, lol.
We've had a Queen MALM (I think - they don't sell the exact one anymore) for something like 7-8 years and it's been just fine through several moves. More recently we also have a Queen BRUSALI in our guest bedroom which was easy to assemble and is doing fine so far.
We like it. I wanted an iron bed type of thing. It's in front of a window, so this way we still get light. It's clearly not as high quality as a REAL antique iron bed frame or anything, but it's sturdy. And not being wood, it was pretty quick to put together - just a few metal pieces.
We tried it with a box spring, but it was really high, because the frame itself is 1 height only. So we went and bought the slats to turn it into a platform-style bed. So far, so good.
We have a hemnes in my daughter's room and my husband didn't have any trouble putting it together. But if you aren't handy, definitely don't buy the matching hemnes dresser. My friend almost got divorced over the 9-hour assembly of that thing!
I bought a 5 tier Hemnes shelf thing for my bathroom and OMFG. I unpacked it and it sat on the floor of our guest room for a week until my husband put it together because 1) you had to build your own shelves out of slats and 2) there were seriously over 100 screws and dowel pieces to that thing. I never knew shelves could be so complicated.
We have Hemnes dressers, but I paid someone to put that shit together so it wouldn't take me 2 weeks.
It took longer to get it from the truck into the house than it did to put it together.
We purchased this one today and brought it home. Started to put it together and discovered that the bolts are too short to put the side rails on it. They are not long enough to have room for the side rails to slip onto them. Did you have this issue when assembling? We are at a loss of what to do to make the side rails attach.

I am dying that this thread was resurrected because yesterday, we were talking about buying another IKEA bed frame. LOL.
We have two queen sized beds but only want to move one. We will keep our current bed frame and the guest room mattress. Then we are planning to buy a king sized mattress when we get our security deposit back. I think we're actually just going to buy another Hemnes bed frame with the fancy slats.
I've had it for a year and I like it. The box spring + mattress was feasible (I'm 5'5" and didn't have to run and jump on it or anything), but I thought it was difficult for one of the cats, so we got the slats and it's been fine. We have the Hemnes dressers.
The bed was easy to put together. The dressers I paid someone to put together!
We have the Malm. We have taken it apart and moved it I want to say 3 or 4 times now so it's a little wobbly at this point but has otherwise held up fine. I will say it's a bit low for my taste without a box spring, but then we bought a mattress with a pillowtop, and now I feel like it's too high. I think we should probably ditch the box spring.
BTW- a box spring wouldn't fit up our stairs either, so we got a split queen. Should be pretty easy to find in your neck of the woods if you want a box spring.
