Please come in if you have an IKEA bed frame

What model do you have? Do you like it? How difficult was it to assemble? 

We we were going to buy a fancy new bed this year, but I think we are going to delay that buy a year or two and try to make our current mattress better with a slat bed frame and a memory foam topper. (99 percent sure the problem is our box spring, and a bed frame with slats is less expensive than a split queen box spring.)

H likes the style of the Hemnes bed frame but read it is a major pain to assemble.

We have an IKEA bed. Not the Hemnes, I think it might be the MALM.

It was a PIA to assemble. It also arrived damaged and IKEA wouldn't pick it up or let us ship it back. We don't have a vehicle that we could drive it back to the store with so they told us to take a photo and they'd decide how much to reimburse us. (The damage was a 1-2" scrap/dent on the headboard. Apparently that's worth 0.)

That said, it's been fine otherwise and it was inexpensive. Design is ok, but not stellar. Same for the ability to hold up over time, as you would typically expect from IKEA.

We have a black metal frame too (for our guest room since it is only a full) but I cannot remember the name of the style and Google is no help. I assume it has been discontinued. It has held up very well and was easy enough to assemble.

I think we have the Hemnes. It wasn't too bad to assemble. h and I did it in an hour maybe? I've assembled way worse things from IKEA lol. It's just a matter of getting the parts sorted really.

We used to have a king size Hemnes Bed. I absolutely loved it. I was apprehensive about putting it together, but H and I were able to do it with no issues. We only got rid of it because it wouldn't fit in our current apartment.

What?! That is insane. If it was damaged then they should have let you exchange it.

We have the cheap unfinished bed (full size) for our first rooms. We like it.

DH out it together; but I don't think it was too hard.

DS has the mid loft bunk bed - Kura. It was a pain to assemble, but I also didn't follow the directions fully which made it more difficult (you were supposed to assemble the bed then flip and add the slats, etc, but there was no room to flip so did it the harder way). I also built it alone, because DH and I can't build together.

It didn't turn me off Ikea furniture or anything. Get an electric screwdriver for building, and a rubber mallet is also also helpful

We have a power drill/screwdriver. H used it to build a TV mount and to reassemble our box springs. We had to saw them in half and fold them to get them up the stairs.

We have the Leirvik one in the guestroom. It took 10 mins to put together? We don't have the slats on the bottom just the center beam. Headboard/Footboard, the two side pieces and the center beam. We have regular mattress set on it. I've spent a fair amount of time in it over the past 2 years. Has held up fine even with our dog jumping up on it with me.

Well, except that we had no way to get it back to IKEA, which is why we paid to have it delivered. So the delivery guys wouldn't take it back, IKEA wouldn't sent a new truck to pick it up and they don't accept returns in the mail for items above a certain weight/size. 

So, we were stuck with it. It's really the only bad experience I've had with them. I'll certainly never buy anything from them again that I can't leave with in my vehicle.

We have the Hemnes in our guest room. I don't particularly recall it being difficult to build, but we have built a lot of Ikea furniture in our time.

I have 2 in my guestrooms. They were my sisters that got passed to me each time she had a kid. I don't know which ones they are but both were easy to assemble. One has a box spring the other does not even though they both have slats.

We have Oppdal, which I think has been discontinued. It was a pain in the ass to build. It took both of us about 8 hours. There were drawers though. And we are not handy people.

I have a queen malm in the guest room and a king malm in my room.

Both were bought on Craigslist and we reassembled without instructions.

With the malm I do think getting the upgraded slats makes a difference. The cheapest slats are like pieces of an unfinished board stapled to a ribbon. If you even just buy one up in the price point on the slats the bed will be more comfortable. There are uber expensive slats but you don't need those.

Eta it came in five pieces - headboard, footboard, side rails and middle rail. Very easy assembly.

Ditto.it has a swirly headboard, kind of like fake wrought iron.

We got two this spring as guest beds. We ended up with two Hemnes. DH put them both together in one evening, and no yelling or swearing was involved with the assembly.

Thanks, y'all. I think I convinced him of this plan this morning. And he's put together plenty of IKEA stuff before. I, however, am really bad at it. He once asked a friend to come over and help him assemble stuff so we wouldn't have to work together - the deal was that I would cook dinner for our friend in exchange for assembly help.

I have malm I think. I bought it five years ago so I forget exactly. It was not too bad to assemble. My son has a metal frame one, that was easier to assemble.

We've had our ikea stuff for five years now and everything has held up very well with the exception of my h's bureau because he insists on stuffing way more in it than it is designed to hold, therefore the bottoms of the drawers popped out and we got rid of it.
He thinks it's cheap shit ikea, but everything else is perfectly fine. Besides his overstuffed bureau.

We have a hemnes in my daughter's room and my husband didn't have any trouble putting it together. But if you aren't handy, definitely don't buy the matching hemnes dresser. My friend almost got divorced over the 9-hour assembly of that thing!

Our guest bed is an Ikea Nordli -- queen sized. Took a gazillion years to put together, and it came with a damaged part. They couldn't ship you a replacement, so I had to go to the store every single Sunday when they got new shipments in and try to get the same bed. They wouldn't hold it for me -- it was such a sh*tshow and I was seriously pissed after 3 weeks of trying to get a new leg for the bed.

But I *love* the finished product. It's very sturdy and I love the lines of it. Couldn't find it anywhere else.....

LOL! Our bedroom furniture is...odd. Our house has a giant bureau in the master bedroom. Apparently it came with the house when my landlords bought it.

Because some genius clearly bought the tallest cabinet ikea makes (I can't even reach the top shelf) and assembled it in the bedroom. Except remember the part where a queen box spring won't fit up our stairs? So the only way this thing is ever coming out is if someone demolishes it. BRILLIANT!

We have the Kura for DD. Easy to assembly for DH.

We also got a crap ton of furniture for the office. It took longer to assemble that the bed but the results where really niece.

We are now fans of Ikea.

This is our guest bed and we have been very happy with it. It has survived for over 8 years (far longer than my Hemnes dresser lasted) and many moves.

Hemnes Queen. It fell apart the 2nd week I had it together. The center stabalizing bar doesn't have any support under it so the feet on the foot board slid out and the foot board fell to the floor. I drilled wood into the bar about 4-5 different places to support it in the middle and now I have a ratchet straps holding it together.

What did I do to break it? I had furniture sliders on the feet so I could move it around to sweep under it. And I plopped down on the bed. I wasn't even having rowdy adult fun.

I loved the Hemnes dressers but my ex got them in the divorce. I needed a decently sturdy bed frame and I didn't want to pay $500+ for a frame. Oh and it's not tall enough to even slide a weekender suitcase under.

Very disappointed.

we have one, it's grey metal, looks very modern.  we actually got it b/c we needed one temporarily for a summer and it was super cheap, like under $200.    it was a bitch to put together b/c part of it was bent, but eventually my very handy dad figured it out with some help from my not handy husband.  once my dad straightened the bent piece, it's been easy to put together.

our "permanent" bed frame actually ended up breaking (you know, b/c we are just such sex animals), so now we use this bed permanently.  it's totally fine for us.

it has slats, but we use a box spring as well.  i like it b/c it makes the bed rise really high, so i feel quite special when i sleep.
