"School shooting" listed by Everytown was accidental discharge by buddy from bullet that ricocheted off floor. Oops. www.youtube.com/watch?v=91nOjXqoVvA …
Another fake Everytown "school shooting." University of Wisc-Oshkosh shooting was at a dance, shot into the ceiling. fox11online.com/2014/03/13/14832/ …
Now, maybe I'm a crazy person, but these incidents ARE discharges of weapons at schools. Whether it was an accidental discharge or a shooting into a ceiling... these things should not be happening at our schools.
IMHO, a crazy nutter going in and shooting up a school is a too-common experience. These incidents DO "count", because they should be the sorts of things that even 'responsible' gun owners are trying to work against.

What the shit is this "Oops" nonsense? There should not be oops accidents with guns at schools.
I think it would have made the claim better to only list actually intentional violence in schools (I think there are plenty) because the way things were calculated allows for this nonsense.
As someone currently sitting within walking distance of where a mass shooting occurred this spring (Overland Park, KS), I'm fully of the belief there is a problem and we need to get this shit under control.

If you're a crazy person then I'll happily join you on that bench.
I think they only one they could maybe, maybe exclude is the crossfire one and that's only if the bullets originated off the property. The girl was shot on the playground though so that's a stretch.
All the "oops" ones only avoided being tragedies by dumb luck.

It is just more evidence of the idea that there is no tragedy terrible enough for some of these people to consider changing the status quo. Going through lists and determining which episodes of gun violence or discharges should "count" is not something normal people would even consider doing.
I do think that different types of gun violence have different causes and will probably require different types of societal change to effect reduction, but at their root, they all involve guns and it is not unreasonable to group them together when looking at a big picture.
The point of that infographic is that there have been way too many incidents of gun violence. Even if you take some of them out because they don't "count," there have still been way too fucking many.

OK, they want to be nitpicky, FINE. Take those dots off the map and then add in all the accidental discharge of a firearm deaths of small children across the US instead. I think they're digging their own grave with this one.
They are all incidents that would be helped/prevented by better gun control laws. I don't see the point in picking them apart.
That was my thought.
Oh, gang-related gun fire? Well, it's not like gang violence could be prevented with fewer weapons, or anything! Let's throw up our hands when it comes to that.
