B still nurses 6-7 times a day. He's fully on table food, we only spoon feed him if we give him something like yogurt.
Kid is a beast. I don't know where he's putting it all, and I worry about overfeeding him. I want to just trust him to eat until he's done, but he seems like he eats so much for such a tiny person. He's still hanging out around the 6-7th %-ile for weight, but climbing a bit, so it's not like he's overweight...at all. But I'm predicting huge grocery bills in my future if this trend continues
Does this seem normal?
Today for breakfast (and this is right after nursing): 1/2 egg full piece of hearty toast (like, the nutty, seedy, whole wheat bread) with peanut butter whole LARGE banana maybe a 1/3 cup of dry cereal
That's, like, more than I eat for breakfast. And he's still banging on his tray for more. I just scattered some more cereal on the tray for him, and he's slowed down, but he's definitely still putting it away. He'll nurse again briefly right after he's done here.
As a side question, when did your kid start dropping bottles/nursing sessions? He's 9.5 months, and he definitely could go longer between feedings, but I'm anxious about supply dropping and the balance between milk/solids, so I try to offer every 2-3 hours.
My kid doesn't feed himself, but he will turn away from the spoon when he is full. Something that our ped said that he can have as much real food as he wants, it is not like is going to overdose on bananas and peas. All within reason I am sure, but it is not like you are feeding him candy.
Half pint - did you do BLW? Our kids are about the same age and mine is still in purée land. Halp!
Sort of. His first food was a hunk of mango. We did some purees for about a month, since we were worried about weight gain it was the best way to make sure he was getting food in him. He pretty quickly started grabbing the spoon or reaching for food. We spoon fed him soft solids like banana and avocados until his pincer grasp improved. We let him practice with puffs, peas, shredded cheese, and just kept adding more.
It was largely laziness on our part, it's a lot easier to chuck bits of food we're already eating at him than to make a puree and spoon feed.

DS would not overeat - whether it was a bottle of formula, being spoon fed, or feeding himself. I do have to watch the fruit, but he will put the brakes on that too, it just takes longer.
10 months was the time when we started dropping bottles. He would much rather eat the day care lunch than drink a bottle, so the transition was very easy.

I think Nods would maybe overeat if I let her. When she has had a full meal and eaten a ton, I will sometimes distract her and start doing something else, or get her out of the highchair and give her a "treat". That signals the end of meal time.
