It was an invitation that said it was at our house from 4 until whenever people decide to stop partying. It also said food and drink will be provided. I guess I wouldn't assume to bring kids unless it said kid friendly or kids are welcome.
I guess all of the milestone birthdays I've been to, I've had to travel 1000 miles+ to, and yeah, my kids would have to be going in that case. I'm also assuming it's family for some reason. If it was family, I know it'd be okay to bring S, but if it were a friend, I wouldn't even ask, I just wouldn't bring him. I'd make it an excuse for a night out.

It is mostly friends, but the family that is coming are getting babysitters. The longest distance is about 4 hrs. where people are coming from. It seems like it's more of the people that live in town that probably have sitters are the ones that are bringing or thinking of bringing their kids. I don't want to be rude and offend anyone. Maybe I should have said adult only on the invite.
Yeah, and I'm staunchly a "leave your kids at home" type person. For some reason, I was picturing it being a family thing, I have no freaking idea why, lol. When in doubt, I would ask, of course. But yes, after reading the details I would assume it's a "no kids" affair.
And the few 40th bday parties I've gone to were heavy on the alcohol and completely not kid friendly. I guess it depends on the people.
But I would never ever assume that kids are ok. And, to be honest, I like to go to parties without the kid b/c it's not really fun chasing a toddler around all goddamned night.
