I'm considering getting a PS3 as a birthday gift for my husband. He doesn't spend *too* much time on games, so I don't feel bad "enabling" his habit . I just don't know if it's worth the money if he doesn't do online play? Are there enough games that are fun and engaging while playing completely solo? He is mostly a PC gamer, so I'd start out with 3 games or so.
We never played anything online with our PS3, so in that respect you don't really need to worry. However, has he played console games in the past? I know a few PC gamers who are somewhat anti-console, because they feel the controls are clumsier than what they're used to. If he's never owned a console or used one much, I'd ask him about it before buying one.
Thanks for your reply! No, I mean a PS3 . I'm starting small lol. PS3 games are cheaper now.
We have a Wii and he has played a few other console games in small doses before, like Call of Duty. I like watching while he plays Wii stuff, so I thought it would be something interesting to do together.
I've heard good things about The Last of Us, Portal, Resistance, Dead Space, Final Fantasy XIII, Max Payne 3. Any you would recommend?
PS3 is a great system. Now that PS4 has come out, you can get a PS3 fairly cheaply. Portal, as you mentioned, is a great game. I'd also like to recommend Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas. Those are my favorite games ever. Oblivion-The Elder Scrolls or Skyrim are both great too.

If you get him a PS3 buy the game "The Last of Us" its one of the primary reasons people have bought PS3's. HE might own the games above on PC.
BUT IF HE PC GAMES The incredibly cheap steam sale starts the 19th and for the price you pay for the ps3 you could buy him over 100 games. If you surprised him with like a 50.00 steam wallet card he would be able to buy a lot of amazing games for hella cheap.

The Last Of Us is a great game. I can't believe I forgot to mention it!
That steam sale means I won't ever see my husband again. I always dread it!

I told him to go crazy with the Steam sale . He already has Skyrim for PC. I think for now I'm going to pass on the PS3 because he is mostly a PC gamer. Thanks for all your ideas!

Score one for PC. This was a much better Idea anyways, one less thing attached to the TV and less clutter! Plus Steam sale will go so much further.

DH has had a PS3 for years and he doesn't do online play either. He loves the Assassins Creed games. He just got the Skyrim game. He likes some of the Lego Harry Potter and Lego Star Wars games.
We have used the PS3 as a bluray player for a while and it also has apps on it such as an Amazon Prime app to stream video. There is also Hulu Plus and some other apps I believe.
