BW went to Florida yesterday to interview him. The agreement was that the interview would be taped and then air AFTER the Hannity interview because Zimmerman feels loyalty To Hannity. (it was an interview with Hannity that led to all the PayPal donations). Zimmerman showed up with all kinds of extra requirements. BW said there was one stipulation made by Zimmerman that, as an employee of ABC, she could not agree to. Barbara Walters would not disclose on The View what the stipulation was. minutes after BW told this story on the air, she announced Zimmerman had called in to the show because he had something he wanted to say. Go to commercial while the producers sort it all out.
Show returns to air with an interview with the cast of "Virgin Diaries". Woman explains how she is determined to wait until marriage to have sex. Her boyfriend drops to one knee and proposes live on the air.
Go to another commercial break.
Return to air. Barbara Walters faces the camera and says With all due respect, Mr. Zimmerman, we came to FL yesterday for and interview. If you were not able to honor your commitment then, it is probably a good idea if we don't do an interview today. We will continue with the guests who have committed to interviews today.
Pan camera over to Paul Williams who sings a medley of his greatest hits.
Weirdness abounds on the view. Roseann Barr was a guest host and compared to the rest of the show, she was actually rather ho hum.
I'm actually calling BS on Barbara. having watched it, it seemed too contrived. In my mind, it makes more sense that Zimmerman, watching from his secure bunker, probably thought he is a lot more important than he really is. I'm sure he simply called to restate the mystery demand that he made yesterday. The producers rushed to have BW say something on the air before all the details were hashed out. The lawyers from one side or the other intervened. BW returned to the air and made it seem like she was not doing the interview because she was morally superior when in fact, she was probably cursing the lawyers under her breath.
I think it's okay to say that when someone is an unapologetic child killer who is now trying to profit from his crime. But I'll edit out my statement if it offends.
i get that barbara walters gave a nice fuck you to zimmerman on air, but she wouldn't have had to if she hadn't annouced that he called and wanted to talk to them. if she hadn't made the decision to speak with him or not, she should've kept her mouth shut.
it's like barbara walters is the dr. jekyll/mr. hyde of journalism. she's sometimes a badass groundbreaker, and sometimes a celebrity hawking ninny. and we got to see both in one show mere minutes apart.
