An 18-year-old gamer in China died after playing the best-selling "Diablo 3" game for forty hours straight.

That's right, the teen spent an entire work week's worth of hours gaming non-stop, collapsed and then died. So reports the Australian Associated Press citing Taiwan's United Daily News as the source of the information.

According to the AP, the teen booked a private room at an Internet cafe in southern Taiwan and then proceeded to play for nearly two days without eating.

An attendant entered the room and found Chuang resting on a table. After the attendant woke him, he stood, took a few steps and then collapsed, the report said. He was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at a local hospital.

Sadly, this is not the first time this has happened in China and other Asian countries where gaming addiction is an ongoing issue.

Back in February, a 23-year-old gamer died after playing a marathon session of "League of Legends" in a New Taipei gaming center. In February of last year, a 30-year-old man died at an Internet cafe outside Bejing after a three-day gaming binge. Back in 2005, a 28-year-old South Korean man died after playing "Starcraft" for 50 hours.

In most cases, the cause of death was cardiac arrest.

Sure, it's easy enough to think this is a problem that happens to other people in other places. But let's admit it -- we've all played a few choice games for too long. So let this be a lesson to all of us: Gaming is supposed to be an enjoyable pastime, not an uhealthy obsession.

WTF? Who can't go 2 days without eating? Fatal consequences for a 48 hr fast? And why is this only happening in Asia? I don't buy it.

It is weird. A lot of the time its at Internet cafes too. Why don't the employees say anything? Very odd and sad.

So sad. Hopefully other gamers will realize that while it may be fun (although I don't think I'd want to play even my most favorite game for 40 hours..) it's not safe.
