Non-Cooking related: Buying a domain

Hi Ladies! I was told by my board that you ladies would be helfpul in asking as I know many of you own your own domain name for your blogs.

So, I want to buy a domain name for my photography stuff...I'm getting a few side jobs (just to start building a portfolio, etc.) and I currently just have a Wordpress site, so I'm using that.
I want to have my own domain name...all I know of is Go Daddy.com. Should I just start using them? Any other recommendations? What do I need to know when buying a domain name? I can't afford alot, but looks like what I want will be $12.99 a year (ideally, I want my first name/middle name .com but that's $2500! A popular name maybe).

Go Daddy is not good these days. I like Blue Host and INtuit.

Don't forgot to consider where you'll host your blog, too. That's separate from the domain name purchase.

I'm using wordpress right now to host, which I was told is easy to install my own domain. There is a photo website I want to use to host eventually, but just getting the website name taken care of while it's still available (what I really want it already taken, so I don't want it to be taken by the time I switch to the photo web hosting service)
