My dearest friend is vegan and made an offhand comment a few months ago about dogs being able to thrive on a vegan diet, but cats can not, and I bit my tongue so hard (because he is not currently interested in getting a dog). I don't know where this line of thinking is coming from-- I think it came about when studies started showing that dogs do produce small levels of amylase in the pancreas? There are lots of things bodies CAN do but should not. Very odd.
I'm really relieved to hear dads are infallible though, now I know who to ask about everything!
And because I was genuinely curious I did read the research linked from this company. It all states, essentially, that dogs process starches better than wolves do, genetically.
Ok. How that translates to "dogs are healthier when not eating meat"... I dunno.
It's because dogs get milk bones. Poor wolves have to gnaw on carcasses. BOOTSTRAPS.

This Just In : Animals undergo limited biological changes throughout the process of domestication! Abandon all common sense!
mp- I just looked up the website and I can't believe the things people are saying on there. Multiple vets have given good input for the product, I know which vets I would never go to.
Is vegan dog diets a trend? I was at work today (I work at a grocery store) and had a lady asking for dog food without beef or chicken. I was all (huh), but dogs LIKE beef and chicken. Apparently she thinks because she is a vegetarian her dog should be too.

Wow I can see if the dog had allergy issues. Blanket no

Ha. My dog is allergic to beef and chicken, but I know I'm not going to find fish only food at the grocery store. What a nutter.
My dad used to swear that our family dog didn't like chicken because my father didn't like it. Sure, I am certain she would have passed up a chicken carcass because your ass isn't in to poultry. *-)
