If you hang a feeder there is also the added bonus of them chirping angrily at you when it's empty. It's pretty cute. I think we have 3 hummingbirds that eat out of our feeder and we have to fill it three-four times a week. They drink like CRAZY.
My ILs have a feeder. I'm not kidding you when I say we had 8 hummingbirds yesterday morning. They were waiting and taking turns at the 4 bird feeder. It's simply amazing to watch. We had a male that was mean and territorial and wouldn't let other birds close the feeder for a few days. Today there was a lady bird that was pretty fat and she was not taking turns the others would come and go but she held her perch for a long time...red sugar water is serious business I tell you.
My nana has at least 4 feeders and after 10 years, she gets about 40 a season. It's amazing! They will land on your finger or hover two feet in front of your face.
Seriously, put a feeder out. The syrup is easy to make (1:4 sugar:water ratio). My 2 will dive bomb me if the feeders aren't out yet or are empty/too old. You can go online to see when to put them out & when to take them in (to make sure they.migrate for winter).
