I'm getting ready to write a letter to Delta about crappy service yesterday and today and am wondering what people think is appropriate to ask for in terms of compensation. What happened:
- Flight out of LGA yesterday afternoon canceled due to weather (fine) - Gate agent scheduled me, then my 2 co-workers on a flight the next morning out of JFK at 8. We all received documents saying we were confirmed and 2 of us were assigned seats (fine) - Get to JFK and find out that I was re-scheduled to a flight leaving at 4 PM from LGA that would take about 4x as long as the original flight. I was never contacted via phone, email or text about this (NOT FINE) - Flight canceled at LGA, get put on standby for a later flight. Have a meltdown at the desk, get on flight to a city 2 hours away from my home by car. Find my own ride back to my city. (not really fine but not sure whether to include this)
So my big beef is with them not telling me they switched my flight as well as the airport I was leaving from. I do know that I wasn't pushed because I was "last in line" - both my co-workers were confirmed after I was and got on the early LGA flight.
So what do you think? DH says that asking for a private chartered flight anywhere in the world is not a good way to start the negotiation
Honest question - do you have any sort of status with Delta? If not, then you may be wasting your time. I had a situation arise with them where I missed the only flight out of SLC to New Orleans one evening by just a few minutes (entirely their fault) and they refused to do squat for me until I reminded them I was a FF/elite airline member. The first e-mail I got back was just insulting. It basically took me writing back to them with all the times I had flown their airline (7 in the past 4 months) before a real person responded, and then I got a $500 voucher ($250 for me, $250 for DH).
Why was the second flight (LGA) cancelled? Was it for weather? If so, I doubt you'll get anything from them, honestly. It sucks that you got booted off the JFK flight and they didn't tell you, but if this is all weather-related, the airlines aren't liable and they have a ton of cranky customers so they likely won't do anything for you. I wouldn't ask for too much - in general I don't ask for anything, but I wait to see what they offer up.
No Elite status w/DL. They just started this route in the spring. I don't wanna go back to USAir for this route - they use crappy prop planes that smell yucky
I agree that without status the chances of you getting much from Delta is slim. But, it never hurts to try. Keep asking to speak to higher people. Or Twitter it at #delta, they are really good at replying to those.
