She recently blogged about couch to 5k. She laid it out, and was talking about how not to make excuses for not working out. After all she has a 9 month old and trains 20 hours a week for ironman. Basically if she can train that much so can anyone.
But she forgot to tell her readers she doesn't work (outside of the home, i know taking care of a baby is certsinly work!) and has access to people to help watch her kid. Yeah, not everyone can do that!!
Training for an iron man is a full time job, which is why it's almost impossible to train for one while you actually have a full time paycheck-type job!

One reason I havent signed up yet! I'm thinking of taking the plunge this summer though!

Do it, do it! I'd love to 'watch' you train for that.
but she isnt saying that everyone can train for an IM, just that everyone can find 30 minutes in their day to couch-to-5k, right?
i tend to agree with the latter - even if you work, there is before work, lunch time, evenings with a stroller, weekends, etc.
but i cant find time to properly train for an olympic even with help, so i also definitely agree with you that there are constraints for the normal person.

Yes the above is true. And not everyone has access to child care. I think her comparison was silly. There is a huge difference with 90 minutes a week compared to 20 hours a week. Maybe she could have said something like: find time in your day to dedicate to fitness, it's challenging with kids but you can do it.
That is one of my pet peeves with a lot of H&F blogs. I don't think a lot of people realize that blogging is their JOB, so of course they're going to have perfectly healthy, gorgeously photographed meals 3X/day and never miss a workout. They get PAID to eat well and exercise. If it was my job, you can be damn sure I'd be awesome at it, too.

I know people that have done it but they pretty much live to work and train. Their daily schedule is train, work, train, bed early. You pretty much have no time for kids, family, etc.
It takes a lot of sacrifice if you have a family and work. DH is fully supportive of me signing up, but somehow I don't think he knows how much time I'll be gone. I have a stepson who is only with us every other weekend. Even now when he is with us I'm gone half the day. YOu really have to prioritize your life if you want to do a long race like Ironman.

Completely agree Brie. With some of them being pregnant now I keep thinking of how lucky they are that they're dealing with morning sickness and don't have to go into the office at 8am and stay until 5 every day, and they don't have to deal with maternity leave stipulations. I have to remind myself that whenever DH and I try to get pregnant, I won't have the same luxury. sorry, slightly off topic there.

OMG, it made me so ragey in first tri. Like, yeah, you try packing a lunch, only to have it make you want to puke come lunchtime and have to run to Chick-Fil-A because you don't have full access to your organic kitchen. Then we'll see how committed you are to healthy living.

i am friends with a couple that do ironmen together - they are doing 3 this year alone (they just did st.george). they do have a kid. on one hand, i think it would be awesome to go on long bike rides and runs with my DH....on the other hand, that would be spending a lot of time together and we'd probably get annoyed with each other!
i hear its addicting. like, you want to die during the race, but then when you pass the finish line its such a high that you forget about the fact you wanted to die and NEED to do it again. doesnt compute with me, LOL.
its on my bucketlist, but not for a very very long time.

My OB did an Ironman last year. She has no kids but works full time in the office and does her call shifts. I have no idea how she found time to do it.
I am a SAHM and I still have no idea how anyone find's the time! I think, hopefully as my baby get's older I can venture out and do things like this I have to schedule my workout time just like anyone with a job outside the home.
I feel she is not being completly honest, thought I do agree with it you say your gonna do it, do it but I know shit happen's.
Ok I read post again reading fail! She has help with her kid's not the case for me my Mom is passed away and MIL is 73 and that is about it for family that can help. Oh well! I do what I can!

one kid - whatever, that's easy totally kidding, i swear, i remember being so overwhelmed w/ one kid back in the day!
my issue w/ the post is the same as yours - she has two things that most of the "excuse makers" don't have/are hard to come by - flexible schedule and reliable (and presumably in-home) childcare.
