Tigers in Red Weather by Liza Klaussmann -- very period and atmospheric, not entirely sure where it's going, but I'm enjoying it. Also reading Imagine: How Creativity Works, by Jonah Lehrer. That one is interesting but I haven't spent a lot of time with it yet.
and I'm also reading Sweet Valley Confidential by Francine Pascal. This is because of an article posted on CEP and I agree with the rating it has on goodreads. It's just bad. I'm very sad I paid $11 for it.
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime. Mark Twain
The Descendants by Kaui Hart Hemmings. I'm going camping this weekend at the beach, so I think I'll have a lot of time to sit around and read!
Did you finish The Snow Child? I've been waiting to see what you thought!
I did! I liked it. It wasn't the most amazing book to come out in the past few years, but I loved the atmosphere of the rural Alaskan setting. I also think the plot and concept harkened back to a lot of fairy tales and mythology, even though they only mentioned the Russian fairy tale Mabel's father used to read to her. It even made me think of the story of Demeter and Persephone, though the opposite - Faina would appear in winter, making Mabel and Jack long for that season, rather than summer. I would definitely read another novel by the same author.

I finished Robinson Crusoe this morning. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I like survival stories, and I was pleased to find that it was not written in overly archaic language as I was afraid it would be.
I'm about done listening to The Gift by James Patterson, book 2 in his Witch and Wizard series. It's good, pretty much exactly what I want for an audio book.
I'm reading Anna Karenina but am taking a short break to read Changeless- book 2 in the Parasol Protectorate series since it just became available from the library. I don't really like having two going at once, but I've already had to go on the waiting list for Changeless twice since I couldn't get to it the first time around.

11/22/63 I had started it earlier in the year and stopped midway when I got bored. Finally decided to finish it and can't figure out how I got bored in the first place. This book is fantastic!

I'm still reading The Wild Rose. It's been a busy week and I haven't had much time. I need to do some reading this weekend because I have 2 library books waiting for me. The short check out times on Kindle books really motivates me.

Slow week for reading because my Kindle died :-( . I downloaded the app to a computer but it's not quite the same and I'm finding myself less absorbed in it. I am working on Packing for Mars by Mary Roach (in book form, not on the Kindle) and Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese (sp?). I'm enjoying Cutting for Stone more than I thought I would so far.
I'm reading Swann's Way by Marcel Proust. I was scared at first but I'm really enjoying it. Down the road, they reference all of In Search of Lost Time... so eventually I'll have to read the other 6 volumes. But for now, the reference is only for Swann's Way.

I just finished I Am the Messenger by Markus Zusack tonight. Even though it's YA, it's, by far, the best book I've read in a long time. I can't stop thinking about it.
I'll start Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter by Tom Franklin tomorrow.

I'm reading Elegy for April by Benjamin Black. I've never read any of John Banville's work (Black is his pen name) and I've been really absorbed by his writing.
I'm reading The Name of the Wind. It moves pretty slowly, but I'm still enjoying it. Gripping.
I loved that one!
I'm finishing up Shadow of Night. I was so obsessed with Shadowfever on audio that I was making excuses to listen to that instead of pick up a real book and read. Now that I ran out of Fever, I need to get this one finished so I can get it back to the library on time.

The Fiery Cross (Outlander #5) - it took me A YEAR to finish Drums of Autumn, but it got pretty good towards the end, so now I went ahead and got this one. I'm way more into Brianna and Roger so I'm glad the story is turning more towards them.
Audio - Girl in Hyacinth Blue - by the author who did Girl With a Pearl Earring. It's about another Vermeer painting. I'm not very far into it, and so far it's a little confusing. But I've liked all her other books, so I think I'll settle into the story soon.
I'm still stuck on Inheritance by Christopher Paolini. Ugh I'm really regreting ever starting this series and I'm one of those people that just has to finish it once I started. But I also just started A Princess of Mars today once I realised it's only like 80 pages so maybe it will jump start my reading for the end of the month.

It's Monday here now, but I finished Perfume: The Story of a Murderer over the weekend and went back to Murder on the Eiffel Tower, but gave up on it -- I couldn't keep the relationships between the characters straight and really had no interest to continue reading past chapter 4. When I gave up on it, I picked up Cover Her Face and am tearing through that now -- 78 pages in the 45 minutes between dinner and my tap class tonight. And I want to read the book more than share our weekly tv with DH. I may be out of my slump.

I thought Girl in Hyacinth Blue was Susan Vreeland and the Girl with a Pearl Earring was by Tracy Chevaier. I loved Hyacinth Blue, but could not get past the first few pages of Pearl Earring.
