We just found out that we're moving back to the US in about 6 weeks. We were expecting it, but it's just hit home that we'll be saying goodbye to a lot of good friends. We're excited about being back in the States and closer to family, but we'll be sad to leave...

Sx weeks? That's not much notice. Good luck with everything.
We are moving home in about seven months. The thought of it makes me so sad. This will be the first move that our DS will be aware of, and leaving friends. I'm dreading that aspect, especially.
Congrats and good luck on the move! I know the feeling. When I think of moving back to the states I always get a bit emotional. Especially when I think of saying my good-byes.
Yeah, we knew it was going to be fast, but we were expecting that the move would happen, so it wasn't a huge surprise (though we couldn't start planning anything until actually getting notification, so there wasn't a lot we could do to prepare). We're moving to the Florida panhandle. It will be really nice to be close to family again.
Good luck with the move, esp with DS being so young. Are you sending much back to the states or getting rid of lots?
The military will ship our household goods and one vehicle back to the states for us. We bought some UK-specific stuff that we will probably sell or give away to other Americans here (a hoover, some fans, pressure washer, stuff like that). So we're sending maybe 95% of our stuff back and getting rid of 5%.

Aww.... I totally understand the bittersweet feeling. We moved back to the States about 6 weeks ago and I am still adjusting and missing my friends immensely. We knew the whole 15 months that we were there that we'd be returning and I don't think it made it any easier. I almost felt like I wished I hadn't made so many awesome friends.
On the flip side, we're already getting to spend so much time with my family and DS is getting to know her big cousin, grandparents, etc.
