i hate being put on the spot re: politics & work

we're having our ISO audit today and i was up. we were chit-chatting about backrounds and somehow my being a theatre major segwayed inot a discussion between the auditor and my boss about the evils of unions and how all the members are lazy, greedy evil monsters and they're ruining the world. i didn't say anything.

when they finally stopped the auditor looked at me and saw my face (i have no poker face at all) and said, "your family is union, aren't they?"

yeah bucko, 3 teachers and a cop.

i tried to downplay it but i REALLY hate it when this shit happens because i suck balls at lying and it's painfully obvious when i try.

This is so not ok or even appropriate in the work place, etc.

You're not the one who should be having to apologize for their awful behavior. So, no worries about being unable to lie. They suck, and I hope your reaction properly shamed them.
