Like when you reply 12 hours after someone sends you a text? I got this from my friend last night after I sent her two texts yesterday morning.
This is the friend that I've complained about before. She either doesn't reply to my texts or I get a response from many hours later. Long after she's gotten off work. I'm trying to give her the benefit of a doubt which why I'm asking this question.

I have done this. Or I will hit send but not hit it exactly right, so I think it goes but really doesn't. But if she uses this excuse frequently, it's probably just that - an excuse.
Oh, and I have totally said I have done this, when I really just didn't feel like answering right away. But most of the time it's actually true, lol. So I'm not saying she's a terrible person or anything, just that it might not ALWAYS be the truth.
I have done it, but not frequently. Most of the time when I don't reply right away it is because I'm mentally tired and don't have the energy to communicate with people at the moment.

The excuses in the past have been "I forgot to reply back" or "I thought this was an old text".
This is a new excuse. lol
Sometimes I do just straight up forget to reply at all. Like if I see the text when I'm busy and then just totally forget about it. Could be legit, lol.
The beauty of text, IMO, is that it doesn't require an immediate response. If I'm in the middle of something (or even something more interesting), I may not respond right away (unless it's something time sensitive, like dinner plans). I figure if someone wanted a back-and-forth chat, they'd just call me. This is why I have read receipts off on my phone -- I don't want people to know that I've "read" their text and not responded. It's awkward.
But to answer your question, I have legitimately forgotten to hit send once or twice, and several times my texts have not gone through (because I went out of 3G range, so it wouldn't go through as an iMessage, but then didn't revert to an SMS or whatever), and not noticed it till several hours after.

I've done that a few times. I hit send, but it doesn't actually go through because I didn't tap it right. I only discover it hours later when I think, "Why haven't they responded yet?"
Yes, could be legit. But her texting excuses happen a lot. She's my age and I know I'm forgetful about things too in different ways, so there is that. : )

I do sometimes if I'm distracted while trying to answer a text. But most of the time its not an issue.
My dad was up in the mountains without signal for Fathers Day, so I decided to text him happy Father's Day so he'd get it whenever he went into town vs trying to call and catch him. I was distracted apparently and never sent the text. And didn't see I did that until almost a week later :/ Whoops.

The weird thing is she had asked if the two of us could get together last weekend, and I couldn't make it. so we were trying again for this weekend--weather permitting. yesterday it looked like the weather would be okay for today, so I sent her a text asking "if" the weather was still looking good, what time should we meet up?
I sent the text at 9 a.m. yesterday. No answer, which is perfectly fine. She works every other Friday, so either she was at work or doing house stuff. After I hadn't heard from her in the afternoon I sent a "hello?" text. Still no answer. She finally sent me a text after I went to bed last night.

I have done it a few times, but I usually will read a text and come up with a response and then forget to even type and send it. But that's mostly for random things, not - do you want to get together texts.
I have a friend like this - I'd rather her just reply and says she's busy, but there is always an excuse. Like she will wait 14 hours to text back and say "I just saw this!" It's annoying. I pretty much have given up in hanging out with her unless she contacts me first.

I have a few times.
But more often, I'm just not replying to my friend. Sometimes I'll reply the next day. Sometimes I legitimately don't check my phone until the next day.
I forget to hit send. Also, more times than I'd care to admit, I've meant to text my husband but accidentally select the person who last texted me. So, a bunch of my friends have gotten "love you honey!" or "on my way home" from me. Annnnd, sometimes I just don't feel like texting so it takes me a while to respond. Often, actually. I know it bothers my friends so I've tried to get better.
I forget to hit send once in a while, but not a lot.
I do read text a lot and I can't respond right away if I'm at work. (And I work weird hours so I could be working at any time.) At work I frequently read texts to make sure they are not needing a response at that very moment and I move on with work, I sometimes forget that text is there.
Often. I didn't used to. Currently it's a common issue. Or I see I didn't send but then it's 1sm & I have to try to remember again at a reasonable hour.
