Supposed to say "frustrated with my psychiatrist" but DS hit the button before I finished typing!
Ugh! I got a call yesterday from my psychiatrist saying she will be out of the office tomorrow (I had an appt scheduled for 2pm). I called this morning to reschedule and the next available appt isn't until August 12th! That's a whole month away from now and I haven't seen her since June 3rd because of her availability. I run out of meds in 4 days and she won't authorize refills until I see her. And the meds aren't working. So I have to wait another month and just rely on my therapist until then. Or I could find a new psychiatrist but my insurance is so damn picky that it would be very difficult and I would most likely have to pay out of pocket. I hate insurance sometimes.

Oh no! Can someone else write you enough to get through? When I was on a few diff meds there was someone covering for my prescriber when she was away in case something like this happened. She shouldn't have no one covering, going without meds is dangerous , you know that. I've seen the list here of what you take and you really can't just stop cold turkey, it's not safe. I had the serotonin syndrome withdrawal thing on vacation once and it was fucking horrible and I had to have emergency meds called into the pharm where I was vacationing and it's now known as the vacation where I cried the whole time
Please call someone and tell them they cannot leave you hanging. You need the meds and don't stop calling until someone gives you enough to hold you over. The withdrawal is no joke. Hugs Mel. Please call
Whoa; that is not cool. I know my psychiatrist will write an emergency scrip for the amount of time I will be out, if needed, and leave it with his PA for me to pick up. I would ask about that possibility.
I don't even know where to post an intro here! I was on TK/TN/TB since 2003, mostly local boards. I was m_and_m.
"I speak without reservation from what I know and who I am. I do so with the understanding that all people should have the right to offer their voice to the chorus whether the result is harmony or dissonance. The worldsong is a colorless dirge without the differences that distinguish us, and it is that difference that should be celebrated not condemned." -Ani Difranco
I left a message for my PCP in hopes that she will write the scripts for me to get me through. I also asked for a referral to another psychiatrist. I'm hoping that if I have a referral that my insurance will cover it. I have basically an HMO and getting specialties covered is always difficult and the list of in network providers is pretty short for behavior health. I'm hoping that if I have a referral to an out of network provider then maybe they will at least cover a portion of the bill.

I'm seriously not being dramatic when I say I would've gone inpatient that time I was withdrawing if I hadn't been able to get in touch with prescriber. It was awful. If you are getting resistance from insurance company, remind them it's cheaper than you going in patient. Someone HAS to help you. Even if you have to go into the ER for it. I'm so sorry you are in this position. Your psych leaving you hanging like this is incredibly irresponsible and I'm so so sorry. Take care and just call until someone writes enough to get you through. And no more than that. (No pouring them into your hand)
A 30 day supply should be sufficient since I have my appt scheduled for August 12th. That should also give enough time for my insurance company to process a referral and get an appointment set up with a new psychiatrist. I can't believe that she did this but then again she's always come across as not very caring. Hell, I liked the psychiatrist that I had during my inpatient stay better than her!

Do you have your meds? That's clearly priority one. Are you waiting on PCP for referral? Maybe call a psych on the list from your insurance, explain, and maybe they can call and get the referral? Good luck and keep at it.

I agree with all of this. I am seriously angry that they are doing this to you!
I haven't gotten a call back from my pcp about the referral or the meds so I still don't have my meds for when I run out. I am hoping my pcp will prescribe a 30 day supply for me to give me enough time to get an appointment with a new psychiatrist. I'm pretty sure she will do it I'm just not sure why I haven't heard back. I decided to not wait for a call back and I just made an appointment to just go see her. I go tomorrow morning when I get off of work. I called around this morning to a couple of psychiatrists and found most have availability within the next 2-3 weeks so getting an appointment with a new one shouldn't be a problem once I get the referral.
I was able to get refills on my meds from my pcp and got a referral so I should be all set to find a new psychiatrist. You can't just leave your patients hanging without a way to get their meds like that.

I'm so glad to read your update. Summer is hard to get in touch on account of vacations, but it's no excuse to leave a patient hanging like that. Take care and good luck
