We have a Panasonic Lumix TS3 and really love it. I'm not going to look up the differences between ours and the one you're looking at, but it does pretty good video and gives you some control over aperture and shutter speed.
We've been looking for waterproof cameras for our upcoming vacation to Australia and I think we're getting the Panasonic Lumix TS20. I don't have a personal recommendation yet but the price was right, reviews are decent and we don't plan on it being our main camera-we're also bringing our nicer point and shoot camera for everyday photos. I figure this is worth a shot for snorkeling, kayaking, etc.
Most underwater cameras are only good for like 10 ft, so they'd be great if all you are planning to use it for is in the pool or snorkeling. However, if you are going any deeper, just buy an underwater housing for a regular point and shoot.
We got the Nikon AW100 right before our recent cruise. We love to snorkel and wanted a good underwater camera. The AW100 goes to 33 feet and some of the pics looked as good as those we took with our DSLR (above water). I'm really impressed with it as a point and shoot and then it took good underwater shots too. We took it in the ocean and the pool. I'd just suggest buying a $20 floating strap to go with any camera you buy though, especially if you will use it in the ocean where it could fall too deep if you were to drop it accidentally.
Thanks everyone! I went ahead w the ts20. The price was right and the guy at best buy raved about it, and they don't even sell it there. Testing it in the pool today so far I love the pics on land, for a point and shoot.
I am glad you got an underwater camera . . . you are going to love it! My sis has had various kinds since they first came out. I have the Sony and love it. It is so cool to take underwater . . . totaly strangers freak out b/c they think we are ruining are point and shoot camera! Hello . . . it's waterproof!! I didn't want a case for my regular camera -- I wanted something less bulky and easy to use. I love the touch screen of Sony.
We are looking at the Olympus TG1, but we haven't decided yet.
Don't do it! I've had two Olympus toughs ( different models) and both after the FIRST use leaked.
The first one was a design flaw and the battery door came open in the water. I was able to dry the camera out and it does work but it's certainly not sea worthy.
I decided to get another one ( different model) sice with the first one it was technically a design flaw and partially our fault that it leaked. The second one I had in the water at the shore ( a hr tops) as a test run before our big trip. It worked great, I cleaned it and dried it according to Olympus's instructions. First day out in the water on our trip and it leaked.
Luck for me it was less than a year old and still under warranty. I sent it back to Olympus to be fixed at no cost. We did use it on our big trip this year and amazingly it survived. I haven't had it out for round two since being fixed so who knows what will happen next time.
FYI, my SIL used to work for Olympus and she even said (of course this was after I already bought the second one) that they are notorious for leakage issues.

So I tested the camera this weekend, and I LOVE it!!!!! I tested both indoors, and in the pool, and the pics are crystal clear. It is actually the best point and shoot I 've owned. Now to test the ocean....
