We lived in London and traveled all over with our bugaboo, and we just spent 17 days in Ireland, England and Scotland with our city mini and it was totally fine
I prefer the MacLaren if your child is a bit older. I have a larger pushchair here and it is a pain if I'm traveling the metro alone. But if you are with your partner the whole time or if you aren't really in the metro, you should be fine! btw most metro stops have an elevator, so it usually isn't too big of a problem but some don't!

I have my UppaBaby Vista from the states in Iceland with me. The being too big isn't usually an issue, but stairs are. A lot of shops downtown here have stairs to get in. I've even brought it around with me with a toddler rumble seat attached and had no issues.
On the other hand, in Iceland it is common to just leave your stroller, and baby, outside of the shop when you go in. I'm not quite on board with that yet, but haven't had many issues getting around.
I guess it depends on how much public transport you'll be doing. A huge stroller like a BOB might be a pain if you're doing lots of busses or taxis, but I would think a Citi Mini would be just fine.

I had a huge stroller with my first and we only used public transport in Germany and when we travelled for the first year. It wasn't an issue. People usually helped with stairs and such. When we traveled to Paris we brought our big umbrella stroller (Uppa Baby g-luxe) and that was a pain with their public transport. So, I guess it just depends on where you're going.(In most cities, I think there are enough people with big strollers that it's not a big deal - it's just getting used to it that might be the hassle.)

Ha, I was about to say, just leave the pram outside!
namasteak you will be fine with a city mini. I would think the bigger issue would be that some places aren't stroller friendly AT ALL, but in that case having an umbrella stroller vs full size stroller won't make a huge difference.

I agree with everyone. A friend has the city mini and doesn't seem to have any problems getting around at all. In fact, it collapsed pretty small in a crowded cafe, and I wished my pretty compact iCandy did that.

Strollers are just a pain here period. I would definitely pick the one that has the best shocks and is easiest to maneuver. I have a Baby Jogger City Select (twin) here in London and it kind of works. Just be prepared to run people over. They like to play chicken.
