What's your current housing situation- will it cost you anything to stay put? Breed restrictive housing policies are the worst. I would try to keep boarding/staying with family as weekend/week options so you can visit and look for a job, but, stay put unless it's costing you significant amounts to do so. Your moving pains are kind of stretched out to August, anyway- ouch (it will hopefully be worth it in the end).
Anyone who's ever moved knows that THAT situation earns one the right to whine away.
That would just be a really long time to board a dog, especially without firm dates. If you had the perfect family member to leave him with, I think that would be fine. Or, I suppose you could take the risk- there are an awful lot of "boxer mixes" around these parts.
This is the website for the Detroit location but they also have a location in Ferndale. Could you maybe split the difference, stay where you're at for a little while and then board for a little while?
@greyed Where in W MI are you moving? Is the relo company only looking at complexes or SFH homes? I live in W MI and many times an owner/renter will be more likely to rent to a pit owner (or any pet owner with an additional non-refundable pet deposit) than a complex or property management company.
Will the company cover the cost if you find something yourself in the price range they define? That way you could do some checking on CL or with local realtors to see if they know of anything available for rent that allows dogs with an additional pet deposit.
We live in SE Michigan but we drive all the way to Jackson, MI to kennel our dogs because we like the kennel so much. It's at a private home, although the kennel is a aspartame out building on the property. Look up where Jackson is, if you are on the lower west side (Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, etc). It wouldn't be much more than a 90 minute drive for you, at most. His rates are very good, we just left a dog there last week and our bill was $65 for 4 nights. Let me know if you want his contact info.
