1. do I roll the dice? 2. Does this make me weird?
I don't like the idea of a male OBGYN. I've never had one and have always purposely avoided them. It just weirds me out. I have an all female practice here that rocks, but I can't find one in our new city. I did find a place with 5 docs, 4 of which are female. Of course the one male doc looks like creeper mccreeperson, but I digress. So I can go there and hope he isn't on call when I deliver because right now I'm thinking that may be my only choice.

1) Do it. 2) Only a little weird.
Confession: I used a practice with 3 females and 1 male. I met all the doctors at one point in my pregnancy. And I was like "please not the dude". He was the one I was the least comfortable with for various reasons. Guess who delivered Kid? The male doctor.
And he was actually pretty great. He read my birth plan and followed it to the T. Even so much as to remind a nurse to lower the lights for me while I was in labor.

If you can't find any other all female practices, what other choice do you have? And do you really think you'll care when you are knee deep in childbirth?

I told H he'll have to do it. There are a lot of nurse midwife practices but they deliver at birthing centers, not connected to hospital, or do home births, neither of which I am comfortable with. Very few have hospital privileges unfortunately, from what my internet searches tell me.
And no, I won't care when I'm actually in delivery. Last time a male student stitched me up, same one I murdered in my head when he came in and stuck his hand out at me to introduce himself while I was in the middle of a contraction.

I have a male OBGYN and I love him. When I was delivering DD, they also asked me if a male med student could assist and observe. I said yes. It's their job and they're professionals. They look at vag all day long and aren't getting turned on by yours. I say give him a chance and go with that practice.

So why not sign up with one of the female docs for the day to day stuff and roll the dice on D-Day?
@bullygirl I think that's my only option. I called and I have to send down my records and hope they accept me. They don't take on high risk, which I am not according to the docs here, including the high risk OB.
See if you can meet with him, if you want to gauge his ick-factor. That way you won't be surprised if he ends up being on duty that night.
You might find yourself being okay with it. After I was in the ER with ovarian cysts, I saw an OBGYN for my follow-ups, and he was my first male doing exams in that area. He made me feel so comfortable and was real and up-front. I love him now. More than my regular female doc who did my paps and exams prior.
Fun fact? Turns out he is also my mom and my aunt's OBGYN. Now that might be a little creepy.

I'm not concerned about him getting turned on by my vag, lol. I just can't wrap my head around WHY a male dr would want to be a obgyn. It's just really strange to me. I know it's a personal hang up.

Why would a woman want to be on obgyn?? I can think of a lot of other choices I'd rather pick than staring at lady bits all day. The only thing I can come up with on either side is babies.

I really like my male lady bits doctor. I am clearly an un parent but I still have a vag. I say try the practice out and see if you like them when you meet them.

I agree. Delivering babies would probably be pretty cool. The rest of it......I can't even imagine some of the nastiness they're exposed to. ***Shudders***
