We're actually moving to London in August through my husband's job. He's being transferred and will be on a Tier 2 - intercompany transfer visa, which I believe is what you'll get. Through that visa, his dependent spouse is able to work. The visa process was really not that difficult and took a few days. The part of the process that seemed to take a while was the "certificate of sponsorship" that the company transferring an individual has to get.

He will have to get a visa if he is coming over to live in London with you. Although I'm not working, I am eligible to work as my visa is a partner of a tier 2 (work sponsored) visa. Both my kids have tier 2 dependent visas. We were just home to renew them and it didn't take long at all. Its not a fun process given by the amount of complaining my husband did, but once all the paperwork was in and we paid the fees, it wasn't long at all.

I'm glad you asked this. H works for a London based firm and we would like the UK to be our next move, but I was worried about my work eligibility. My only knowledge of the visa process in the UK is from my sister who moved there on a fiancé visa and had insane work restrictions. I'm glad to hear it isn't the same for dependent visas.

Fiance visas are awful. 6 months and no working at all

Yeah, she couldn't even volunteer! She had some other issues too, and actually had to go back to the US while they were worked out. Anyway, she finally was able to start working in January, a mere 14 months after she's moved. Luckily my BIL is a great guy and I know enduring the visa stuff was worth if a hundred times over for them.

I went over while engaged to my now dh and ended up getting my masters there so I could do something and be on a student visa because the fiancé visas suck so bad!
