Was there a point where kid stopped crying before falling asleep?
We started CIO for naps almost two months ago, we set a timer for 25 minutes and if he's still crying, we abort and try again later. That's happened like twice. He doesn't cry for more than 15 mins most days, bit he's never not cried. I feel bad that naps are always a reason to cry
I would think by now he'd be like, oh, story, sound machine, crib...I know how this ends. But he starts crying as soon as I get to the at page in his book and carries on for 10 minutes or so before falling asleep.
DD cried for at least 1-2 minutes until she was almost 2 from the time we sleep trained her at 9 months. Sometimes she'd cry up to 10 minutes but it was a long time before she didn't cry at all. Watching her on the monitor, she'd be screaming like it was the end of the world while getting settled into her preferred sleep position. She has stopped that now, but now she talks for up to an hour and a half before she falls asleep

No. For bedtime, DD falls asleep without crying like 90% of the time - the other 10% of the time, she cries for maybe 10-20 seconds or so. Occasionally longer. For naps, she cries a little bit more but she's only just started napping with any sort of regularity so there's that.
I remembered being concerned those occasional times DD would cry when we set her down in her crib for the night but I read something funny on Troublesome Tots that no kid likes going to bed so crying for a little bit is NBD.
There was a spell when DD was around 6 months old where I could lay her down at night and she would go right to sleep without crying. That lasted for maybe a month. Now, she cries every time I put her in the crib. 95% of the time, she cries for no more than 10 minutes and either goes right to sleep (at night) or starts playing in her crib before eventually settling down to sleep (naps).

For whatever reason, naps are more emotional. At bedtime, she will either just roll right over and sleep, or roll and sit up, and flop around for like 30 mins or so just babbling occasionally before falling asleep.
Naps…well, today was an easy normal day, where she just blinked a few times when I laid her in the crib, and then clutched blankie and fell asleep. But yesterday…she sat right up, and then stood up and screamed into the monitor until I came in there and told her to lay down. Which she did, but she cried like it was going torture her to do so. And then her nap was only 40 mins. Naps have been rough lately tho, because she's considering dropping to one nap. It's like, every other day is a two nap day, and then the others are either one nap, or two crap naps. Can't win!

Yes, she would go down for a nap after nap training without crying. I don't remember when crying stopped, but it wasn't that long. As long as she was tired enough and well fed once we nap trained, she'd go down without tears, or with just a quick little outburst when she saw me leave, then settle back down.
My son cried every night from the night we started (8 months) until 2 yrs old. No matter what we added to bed time he just cried. Most nights it just lasted about 5 minutes, he just hated being left alone I think. Kids are so weird sometimes
DS stopped crying pretty quickly-now he just talks or sings.
He has a lovey, but doesn't settle in with it. He gets even more pissed if I try to remind him that it's there after he's started his post-story cry.
Hm. Have you tried giving it to him while you're reading? Something that he can still "keep" even though you're leaving the room and he realizes it's the dreaded time of day?

We did CIO first at night with DS. The first night he cried for 30 minutes, the second it was 20, the third 10 and the fourth 0. Then we moved on to naps. This took longer. My best advice is to stick with it and make your routine the same as night time (or similar). We feed upstairs always for naps, just like at bedtime. Then just a kiss and plop him down. It probably took a good month for DS to "get" that it meant it was sleep time. He would cry some days, and other days just babble to sleep. DS is now 12 months and most days will go to sleep easily at nap time without crying. He will usually babble for 2-20 minutes, but eventually puts himself to sleep.

Leo is one. He still cries pretty loudly for the first 3-5 minutes after we lay him down for naps and bedtime. Then he crawls around and stuff for a while before giving in and sleeping.

He gets it as soon as he goes in the crib, and is happy to kind of snuggle it while I read to him. He also snuggles it when he wakes up (he's perfectly happy when he wakes up from a nap, and coos and plays for a while before I go and get him).
He starts to cry as soon as I get to the last lines of the book - it's funny, it's like he recognizes the picture or the words, as soon as we've read a book a couple of times, after that he "knows" when the end is near. I try to snuggle the lovey up to him and rub his arms a bit before I leave, but he just gets mad.
