My very first message board experience was in the AOL days when I was 12 or 13. I joined an *N Sync message board, because I was a crazy fan, and we spent most of our time fighting with members of the BSB board.
I seriously started investing time in message boards back during my days on The Knot. It was fun, and several board/off board implosions later here I am.
I joined TK when I was wedding planning, but didn't even realize there were message boards. TB was my first and I was there TTC, TTTC, and eventually my BMB.
Before that, though, I was part of an online diary community and blogged quite a bit there. The site has since gone away, which made me sad. I had over ten years worth of entries and memories on that thing.
I started way back in 1994 on a site called soc.feminism. It was all DOS-based back then. I was working 2 hours a day while looking for a real job, so I had lots of time for arguing. Nothing's changed much about message boards except the format, and I guess the level of TMI.

I was planning my wedding. I was too chicken shit for the real Knot, so I used the Knot FB app's boards.
THE WEDDINGBOOK?! If so, ME TOO!
I've been in and around message boards since I was a teen. I had my first blog (LJ) in 2001. Planning a wedding sucked me into The Weddingbook and when it went kaput I gravitated towards the Pets Board on TN.
I signed up for the knot when I got engaged, and found the forums. I had never been on a message board before. It took me a LONG time to actually want to post though.
I started in the old AOL ones. Went to the knot before I got engaged and stayed there after that ended till the exodus. I just moved over with everyone else.

Yeah, that was me. I was perfectly content to be a dirty lurker for a while. IRL I tend to try to not draw attention to myself, and posting in threads or starting new ones scared the ever-loving shit out of me. I'm still not a frequent poster, but I'm trying to be more involved.

I had left the knot/nest/bump before the exodus that I always see everyone reference. Did something happen to cause the exodus?

Dramz. Censorship + KA (Knot Annie) left. etc. etc.
ETA: I'm probably referring to a more recent (last 2-3 years) exodus.
Then that went out of style and HS came along and I got busy.
But, HS boyfriend and I talked about getting married (when we were 23, NOT in HS) and I found TK. Then I found the forums and got hooked. Made my way over to TN and lurked on the TIP board. Followed y'all here like a 2 bit stalker and started posting.
