I signed up for the knot when I got engaged, and found the forums. I had never been on a message board before. It took me a LONG time to actually want to post though.
Yeah, that was me. I was perfectly content to be a dirty lurker for a while. IRL I tend to try to not draw attention to myself, and posting in threads or starting new ones scared the ever-loving shit out of me. I'm still not a frequent poster, but I'm trying to be more involved.

I had just moved to Chicago to work on a construction site with my husband. I didn't know anyone or have any friends or family there.
I was BORED during the day, and helping my bff plan her wedding which took me to the knot which told me I wasn't welcomed there and to move my old ass to the nest.
I started reading ML, confused by the "regular" posters and watched for weeks. Then started posting during the day and then at night, then the weekends too.
Television without pity got me hooked. My butthole ex husband refused to talk about reality shows with me, or about what was happening on Gilmore Girls and I decided it was better to talk it out with strangers.
good fucking riddance. My dh hates my reality tv addiction, but he at least amuses me by letting me talk about it and gasps/laughs at the appropriate times.

I created my account for a very few posts on TK in 2006, then posted a bit on TTC/TTGP (can't recall the name and too lazy to check) on TB in early 2010. Then posted a lot more after our quick +, then two m/C's in 5 months.
TB gets a lot of flack on here, but the MC/PL and TTCAL boards had some pretty great women with such expertise (hard earned, unfortunately).
I then had a very active BMB with DS (June 2011). I also had to only pump for 7 months of my mat leave and needed something to fill my time. When it started to die down/move to FB/people all started getting KU again around 10 months I checked out and found ML on TN just prior to the migration.
I had been on a weight loss forum but kept getting shamed for being fat/not losing weight fast enough. (It was weird) I had given up on forums for awhile and decided to try out the knot/nest/bump, then I read that everyone came here and so here I am. I generally enjoy GBCN and like knowing that there is a community out there that is, though sometimes incredible bitches <3, very open and supportive.

I remember there were these DOS based local boards back in college in the early 1990s, then the alt. boards. I got on TK back in 2008, then the multiple TK OBs, as well as TB and now here. I have) been on a few others along the way (one for the band Saw Doctors, another a friend started for the Red Sox, more I am sure I have forgotten).
I did the AOL chatting and livejournal stuff back in the day, but I liken that more to facebook since I really only communicated with people I knew. I tried chat rooms but would get so many spammy emails that it didn't seem worth it (I'm sure I was doing something wrong).
I first discovered posting with random strangers in this format when I joined Weightwatchers in 2008. I did it online and it was really the only way to get questions answered since I didn't have a "leader". I never really broke into the in-crowd there and formed any friendships, but did get a lot of great advice. So when I got engaged a year later I went to the Knot boards for similar reasons. When my wedding was over I felt stupid posting about weddings so I moved to MM on the Nest.
Wedding planning - first for my cousin's wedding in 2006, then my own in 2007. I've mostly been just one The Knot/Nest/Bump to here (hopping around a ton before finding ML) but I did spend a year or two on a breed-specific dog board.

I was in the hospital with pre-term labor while 25w pregnant with the twins, and started boggling preemies and such, stumbled upon The Bump, and the rest is history, hahahaha.
