Hi guys!!! After almost 24 hours of travel (including a long ass 14 hour flight!), we made it to Australia safe, sound and not nearly as miserable as I had imagined. Thanks to everyone for my advice about flying with an infant. DD was a real trooper and managed to sleep for most of the flight (not in the bassinet, alas, but on either of us, which was actually not that uncomfortable). She had a little meltdown here and there, but every kid on the flight (and they grouped all the babies together because of the bassinet seating) had at least one meltdown. There was one guy who was sitting next to us with his 3 year old who apparently flies back and forth regularly and has since the birth of his son. He was maybe a little drunk before we even took off. He gave us a little "flying with baby" pep talk that consisted of saying, "Just relax and don't worry about what any of these people think. The baby-haters are all just a bunch of selfish people who only care about themselves," while looking around at the other passengers, giving them each a cold stare. It was totally rude, but at the same time, no one made any comments or anything about any of the little kids when they each had their respective meltdowns (not a single one lasted more than a few minutes). Here's a pic (if it works) of our little intrepid traveler, hanging out in her bassinet with my complimentary mini-bottle of wine.
Good job! The first time we flew from London to the US my son was 12 or 13 weeks old, and we were in business class. The flight attendant walked t us and said 'Don't you worry one bit what anyone thinks about you being on here, everyone on this plane was a baby once too - and you will never see any of these people ever again'. I remember this every single time we fly!

Glad it went well!
We flew with B today (only 3 hours though!) and it also went better than expected. I always get nervous and just always have to remind myself that the flight only lasts so long, it doesn't go on forever.
