Ugh...I don't remember it being this bad with DD (but she also had teeth REALLY early so I think she had no idea WTF was happening..ha!)
DS is 5.5 months and teething like a maniac. I literally feel 4 teeth under there. He's a crying hot mess who won't sleep and I can't put down. He's all stuffy as a result, drooling like crazy, red cheeks. Eats less, but still okay there.
I spent $18.00 on teethers yesterday, 3 sort of helped, one was great (The one with the bristle brush is a miracle).
The Tylenol only a little bit helps but not for long and takes forever to kick in (I'm about to bust out the Motrin, I think he's close enough to 6 months that it doesn't matter too much?).
Thoughts, suggestions? **ANYONE WANT TO GO THE LIQUOR STORE FOR ME!**
I'd also cheat on the Advil. Two weeks doesn't seem like a huge deal.
Get outside and distract as much as you can?
I feel better that you'd cheat too. Thanks.
I'm headed out for a run with him in a while and to do some farm stuff. He loves outside. I'm just waiting for the breeze to pick up because the bugs are currently terrible!
Orajel Naturals works wonders for both of my boys! (Regular Orajel is not recommended, but the naturals is just clove oil.). A VERY TINY spot of it (the tip of an ink pen) seems to stop pain immediately. Just be sure to use a tiny spot of it. Other warnings about Orajel talk about numbing the mouth and choking, but that's if you use way too much. I'm not even 1/4 through a tiny tube I bought when DS1 was born!
Neither of my boys liked any of the billion tethers we had.

Thanks. I just found a tube of orajel actually. I forgot about that stuff. I know my pedi said with DD the regular was fine as long as I didn't use it like a crazy person. **Off to slap some on**
Really cold chunks of cantaloupe. Double duty of starting to learn solids (we did BLW), and a nice cold thing to gnaw on. When he had no teeth at all this worked best since he wasn't able to bite off a chunk, and the pieces were pretty large.
I've also given him frozen washcloths to gnaw on too.

I just read something recently that reiterated how terrible orajel is for kids... beware. I think it referred to brain damage, seizures, and more. I am sure some is extreme cases but I wouldn't use it.

I just looked up those articles. It appears that Benzocaine is the concern, and the side effect, while potentially severe (reduced oxygen in the blood), is very rare. I always recommend Orajel Naturals because it has no Benzocaine in it. It's just clove oil. I've read and researched as much as I can via google/mainstream internet and find the only concern with it would be if the child were to get WAY too much of it. A numb tongue is not a good thing.
I feel confident in using Orajel Naturals, and highly recommend it to anyone dealing with a teething child who is in pain. (However, I'm also open to changing, if someone can find something that says that's not good for babies, either!)

Eh. I'm not scared. I don't use enough of it to make it matter and I am using the natural stuff. I talked to my pedi about this with DD and he wasn't concerned either. He said a lot of the research about it had to do with massive overdosing. He told me if I followed the directions I'd be just fine. I feel like every day something is out to get my kids so I pick my battles.
I mean I'm only 1/4 of the way through a tube I bought with DD and am now onto DS....I'm not worried.
Neither Tylenol or Advil helped her. But the Hylands tablets were a lifesaver for her. She also liked cold sticks of celery and frozen bananas in a mesh feeder

I've had lots of friends recommend the Hylands teething tablets, although we never ended up trying them ourselves. We used frozen teethers a lot for DD and she seemed to like them. I've also had friends give their kids frozen wet washcloths to chew on. I've never tried that either.
Motrin for sure but I put ice cubes in the mesh feeders and let DD chew on that to numb the gums. Still doing it now for the 4 damn canines coming in now.
