So we extended our kitchen to increase square footage. There was just too much wasted space in the adjoining living room. Turns out I increase the sq footage so much now that everyone thinks I need an island in the middle. I don't want a permanent island because I'm scared to give up the space but I'm thinking I could buy a nice movable island and not have to endure the permanency. Anyone here have one they love? Any links, PIP's or recommendations are appreciated. I'm not sure the exact size I'll need but it is a pretty big space, so the smaller less expensive kart kind might be too small.
I've really liked some of the ones I've seen made from dressers.
Too much floor space is yet another of my kitchen pet peeves, Imo, it is a waste of valuable real estate. We have never had big kitchens, but we have had a couple that had too much space in the middle. Our island here not only gave us more function, but it actually gave the space a direction for traffic. Before it was like a dance floor and people were always wandering or trying not to bump into each other...it was weird.
They aren't cheap, but I really, really love it. We have the cottage style one and customized it so it would be raised panels instead of beadboard on the doors.
