If you live somewhere with a totally different alphabet how do you translate websites? Google translate completely sucks here in korea because for some reason Koreans love to make their text into pictures. So google doesn't know it's text and I can't c&p the text into a translator. I can retype it but that takes forever. I'm hoping there's a better way I just don't know about. Many websites here also have incompatibility issues with browsers other than IE. I only have apple products. Does anyone else deal with this and have suggestions?
There's not much you can do about text-as-image web design. It's annoying and as a programmer I resent web developers who still do it when there are better alternatives. Japan seems to have a lot of those too, so I ended up retyping the most essential text. (I guess it forced me to make more of an effort to read and navigate in the native language though!)
As for the IE thing, on a PC you can install the "IE Tab" extension for Goohle Chrome so that you can open crap websites in an IE-rendering tab. I don't know if there's a similar option for Mac though. If it's a huge problem, you can set your Mac up to dual boot and run both MacOS and Windows on the same machine.

I'm lucky that a lot of websites here have an option to view in English so I usually stick to those. Google translate is pretty worthless. If I can't see a site in English I usually just give up because I have absolutely no clue how to look up the meaning of traditional Chinese characters.
And maybe it is different in Korea, her in HK I find that the internet in general is just 10-15 years behind. Everyone has crappy websites (if they have one at all), and online shopping is practically non-existent.
All I've got is that if you are searching for an answer to a question on a Korean website. I could probably bat my eye lashes at my Korean friend who now lives back in Seuol to find the answer for you. :/
Ok at least I'm not the only one dealing with this! I guess I just need to downgrade my expectations.
But seriously, who designs websites that only work with IE, and are loaded with flash flash flash everywhere and images with text? Who does that???!!!
I will get the IE extension tab. At least then I might be able to buy something even if I don't know what it is lol. ITA about their sites looking like they're stuck in a time warp.
I turned off the option in chrome to auto translate. It now asks if I want the page to be translated but I usually do not and am able to find the tab on the particular website to change the whole site to the English version. Another option is to google the site you want to go to but put "English" after it so it automatically takes you to the English version. You can find a lot of decent stuff on the Gmarket site, and its English version is great.
Finally, I pay for a VPN service and use it a lot.

I want to love gmarket but I find so many of the item descriptions are still in Korean, even on the English site. And the ordering part is all in Korean for me too. Is your version all in English?
Have you seen that app that translates in real time? Like you photo/video the text and it translates it on your phone?
It's so freaking futuristic I can't imagine it's in use yet, but it's amazing. It SEES the foreign words, it doesn't translate text.
I need that so bad. Do you know what it's called? I have an app that translates photos but it takes forever to translate even a few lines so I never use it.

I've never heard what it's called but I'm sure you can find it by Googling "Amazing translation app" or similar. The video demo I've seen was from Portuguese to English.

You know, you're totally right about the descriptions still being in Korean, especially if the description is in the picture. I forgot about that. Have you set up McDelivery yet?? Now that's an English site that is on point!
