It means you can treat or not treat. You're technically normal, but if you are feeling symptoms, you'll likely feel better with some synthroid. Or if you're TTC/pg, you'll likely want to get treatment to get your TSH closer to 2 (that's where my doc wanted me, anyway).
I felt so much better once I got my synthroid. My numbers were similar, around 4.5-5.
I'm pregnant now. Not sure what I would be treating? I literally have no idea what that test is about.
How were you feeling before and after treatment?
TSH stands for "Thyroid Stimulating Hormone", so it's something to do with how your thyroid is functioning. That's the best I can do, but I'd be annoyed if my doctor gave me a test and didn't explain to me what it was for!
I didn't have weight problems, but I was so tired. Just no energy. And yes, part of that is early pregnancy, but I actually felt better after getting my thyroid treated than I did before I got pg. It takes a few weeks to get things leveled out on the medication, so it's not an overnight fix. Other symptoms are things like dry skin and being cold.
It's a common test to run because untreated hypothyroidism can cause issues with a pregnancy. Your numbers are NOT anything to be alarmed about, but it might be enough to either treat or do follow up bloodwork in a few weeks.
