I am fuming at my research student. Her poster has to be sent to the printer by noon today, so I told her to come to my office at 9 am (EDT) to go over final revisions. SHE IS STILL NOT HERE. I texted her at 9:15 and she said "ok I will be over soon." WTF? I am so bad at confrontation but this shit doesn't fly. My MIL got up really early this morning to bring me to work!
I feel like hell this morning and wish I could stay home. I can't because my boss seriously screwed something up and we have a meeting to try to figure out how to fix it. She refuses to own up to the fact she messed up which just makes me all the more irritated.
I keep asking MH what kind of birthday cake he wants, since we're having friends over this weekend to celebrate.
He kept waffling and saying that I don't need to order one, but finally he said he'd like something "light" (as opposed to a ton of chocolate, I guess?). He suggested a yellow cake with whipped cream and strawberries. Fine, I started pricing them out from the local supermarket and a great local bakery. Then he said he likes my homemade tres leches cake and wants me to make that, and add strawberries. Also fine.
NOW he's saying that, rather than me just make a single-layer tres leches and throw some strawberries on top, he wants a two-layered tres leches cake with strawberries and whipped cream in the middle. I've explained several times that it'll just fall apart, since tres leches cakes are soaked in milk. He keeps saying, in a joking tone, "Just make it happen."
I got H to watch Downton Abbey with me (Season 1, Episode 1) and now he is really into it. We're already on Season 3. Last night I had the mistake of watching the episode where Sybil dies right before we went to bed.

After 6 calls and being hung up on twice, I finally got confirmation that my mortgage company stopped my auto-bi-weekly payments. They stopped applying my overpayments to principal and only applied it forward and refused to change it. It will only take another 15 business days to get it in writing. I feel like this is a miracle. I won't believe it 100% until I see the written confirmation but yay!

He's not a child and will survive the single layer. I am clearly a shitty wife because I would have only asked once, if at all.
I like planning party menus, otherwise I would've stopped asking as well.
In the end, though, he's getting whatever I feel like making/ordering, lol.
I had a good career/wtf do I do with my lyfe talk with a friend of mine. He pointed out that if I feel like sticking around for a year is a long time, I should be looking for a new job now, at least if I can get a diagonal move, and that's an easy conversation to have with a recruiter. So I've taken the next step, which is ... figuring out what daycares would work with the commute to various jobs.
I'm pretty sure the woman who used to be in my office never changed her VM to let people know who took over her role (me) or what her number is (she's still in the building, just a different job). She had a bazillion new callers on the phone ID.
I just got permission to re-set the VM and and made sure to give out her new number on my message. WTF lady.

July birthdays are for ice cream cakes and refrigerator pies. Or ordered. I speak from experience: my birthday the hottest day of the year (statistically not just in my head). Best birthday gift? Not turning the oven on! Lol
Which kinda gets to my random. Just turned 40. Suddenly, all those things like "retirement" are on a real horizon, not just a hypothetical someday. I think I need to channel @shoegal and get my ass in gear with non-401(k) investments.

I'm feeling exhausted and under the weather literally. Monsoons are fine, even micro bursts I can role with, but they invented a new weather term for this weekend's crazy: macroburst. 100 mph winds, thunder, lightning, pounding rain and hail. This hit just before midnight Saturday night. So I was up half the night and spent part of yesterday evaluating the damage. So far its just a few broken boards, but I haven't gotten to the attic. yet.
2) I'm subbing a spin class at the big, fancy, popular gym today. I'm unbelievably nervous about this, especially because I invited my entire running club to come check it out. (I teach at the location on the other in to town, and not many people make it out there)
3) I saw a really great production of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf yesterday. Now I want to get another dog name Virginia Woof.
Student showed up at 9:43. She was really apologetic, like she always is when she's late, but I really regret waiting until the last week of the summer program to put my foot down on this. But I did say "this is not acceptable" and "this is really unprofessional," so go me?

I couldn't believe how crazy that storm was- my parents had all kinds of damage in their backyard. Glad you seem to have escaped mostly unscathed.

Since it's summer and my contract work is slower, I've decided to take Mondays off instead of working 1-2 less hours every day. I had big dreams of meal prepping, working out, and cleaning the carpets. It's 10:15am and I've done nothing but shop at Target.com and surf the net. GRRR, where'd my motivation go?
If anyone saw my pity party post from this weekend, I was able to get a late afternoon appt with my gyn today. I don't think I've ever been this happy to go to the gyno!
Our Exchange student is coming today after flighing 14 hrs to get here.
We had to take my dad to the ER last night and he is still in the hospital.
I am at work and I passed a huge blood clot...., then had to wash my dress in the bathroom sink. Luckily it has a tiger print and washed out good. But now I feel like everyone knows.
rubytue, sounds like you are going to get yourself a personal Vanguard account for your birthday!! do it, do it, do it!!!
Super fun when dividend time comes around, it is like having a birthday several times per year.....sort of
Happy 4-0!!!
Ha! I have a TD account. But this was the motivation I needed to take part of my bazillion in cash and dump it into my dividend appreciation fund anyway. Actually, the real kicker was mint sending me an email that I'd made my "buy a house goal" like years early. As in, that was the cash required to make a 30% downpayment on a second/vacation home. Holyshit!! So I told H to ignore bank balances for awhile bc I was moving money around (we have several different accounts, but the links are only between a few, so say it has to funnel through checking to get to taxable TD.

Pregnant rbp is not here for shenanigans! Moms, research students, everyone, watch out lol.
