I mentioned in my weekend recap that some friends of ours, who live in Mexico, came for a visit yesterday. They have a 7 year old son that was raised mostly here and a 3 year old daughter that has been raised mostly in Mexico. The 7 year old seems to easily transition between English and Spanish, but the 3 year old is just getting immersed in English for the first time.
It was so incredibly cool to watch JB and the kids play, especially she and the 3 year old girl. I know at this age lots of kids play without verbally communicating but it was just really neat to watch them just play. JB copied everything that the other girl did and shared wonderfully. At one point she grabbed the friend's hand and said to me "My friend. Show her my room." and preceded to take her upstairs.
And when we gave the little girl a pair of shoes that JB out grew, she told her mom in Spanish, "I want to wear the shoes my friend gave me."
Unfortunately there are no bi-lingual programs around here for JB's age group, but I'm hoping to get her into one when she is old enough.
