Hey ladies, lets talk some goss and current events.
Sally Pearson and Coach - Am I missing something here? He said she didn't show up for a meeting or something and she was a bad example and it's like he physically assaulted her. While it wasn't kind or nice to say in front of the team this is his opinion. I just don't get how this should result in such drama.
Working for the Dole - What are your thoughts on this new policy? I saw on the Project how the government is expecting people on the dole to apply for a minimum of 40 jobs per month.
Love Triangle - Biebs/ Bloom/ Miranda Kerr In case you don't know Bloom tried to punch Biebs because of a love triangle between the three. Can we all applaud Bloom's attempt in beating up Justin Bieber?

I have no idea about Sally Pearson or the Love Triangle.
The work the dole idea is insane! It's conceived by people who have never had to hold crap jobs, and have no idea about working in a real world. The idea that anyone who can't find a job in Perth should move to Melbourne an apply to be a bricklayer is stupid beyond belief! I'm having trouble finding a job, but I am in no way qualified to be a bricklayer. I have a Management Degree and 14 years experience as a legal secretary. How does that mean I can get, and then perform, a job as bricklayer?
Additionally, if you have no job, and no money, how are you supposed to move to Melbourne from Perth or Darwin? And as for the idea of applying for 40 jobs a month? What if there are not 40 jobs a month open? The idea that everyone can work is wonderful, but where the heck are the job coming from? There are not that many jobs available!
And I cannot even being to formulate a sensible response to the idea that if you are over 50 and can't find work you will automatically be put in the National Guard/Reserves. WHAT???
And last for this rant, how does the government expect the young people to survive during the 6 months with no benefits? I'm pretty sure the benefits they receive for the first six months are not enough to allow them to save enough to survive for the other half of the year. I am right now predicting a spike in crime, homelessness, and suicides, because the government has left them no other option!
No but I wanted to give a recommendation but no idea if it's findable online anymore by you. CakeLover since we were talking about Offspring I found on Hulu a 2 part mini series with the actress from it. Called Paper Giants: The Birth of Cleo. Very good!

I think you hit the nail on the head when you said the concept was conceived by individuals who have never had to hold crap jobs. I don't see how blindly applying to jobs to meet a quota set by the government is going to help anyone. Think about the poor person who now has to read through endless resumes because of the influx of people trying to meet a quota. Not their brightest plan.
I'm very interested in how this all will play out.

I'll have to check it out. Asher Keddie, the actress from Offspring, is going to be playing in another mini-series here soon about a scandal and politics. I think it looks good.
I don't know if they have this on Hulu, Underbelly. They have a few seasons but I think it's the first season I'm thinking about. It stars the sister from Offspring. Man, she did such a good job in that role. I sometimes have a hard time seeing her as the sister in Offspring because I watched Underbelly first.

I'll have to look for Underbelly and keep my eye out for the other miniseries.
On Hulu the bio-dad of Nina's has a show from 1984 called Mother and Son.

I have no idea about Australian politics, but is this for real??? That is cray-cray!!
We have the highest unemployment in all of Australia. My company has had ads running for three positions for two weeks. We have had FOUR CVs sent in. FOUR. Sure the hours are crap, but the jobs are inside, in A/C and pay $23/hr. And we've had FOUR CVs.
I have no problem making people apply for jobs. 40 a month is ridiculous, yes. But even in the states, in order to keep getting unemployment, I had to prove that I was applying for jobs. I am not sorry that a bricklayer may have to go work at Hungry Jacks. When you are unemployed and on the dole it is still be to be UNDER employed than UN employed.

I'm not sorry the bricklayer may have to work at Hungry Jack's, what worries me is the Hungry Jack's worker laying bricks. Combined with the government cutting funding to nearly all substantive training programs.
I also would like to know where Tony Abbott, Joe Hockey, and Eric Abetz (am I the only one who keeps hearing the news readers saying his name and thinking it's a woman named Erica Betts?) think the jobs are coming from. It's all well and good for them, they have jobs (at least until 2016) but it seems in and around Melbourne everything is closing and laying off workers, not hiring. I understand the requirement to apply for jobs in order to receive benefits, but there have to be jobs there in order for people to apply for them -- even jobs that would have the workers under-employed.
Knowing what the apprenticeship programs are like I am not worried about unskilled people laying bricks. Unions would never allow it.
As for the jobs? Maybe they should have thought about this before they paid people to have babies. Babies that are now growing up with nothing to do.
Maybe it's time to expand the Australian Armed Forces and teach these people some skill sets. I'm guessing the history of only having to go to school until year 10/age 16 isn't really working out for most of these people.
Maybe it's time to unrestrict trading hours so stores can stay open longer and have to hire more people to cover the shifts.
Maybe it's time to get rid of penalty rates and out of this world minimums and ridiculous labour laws so people will be willing to actually hire people. (With the labour laws they way they are, once we hire a casual we pretty much can't fire them We had someone steal $100 but because no one actually saw her do it, we couldn't fire her)
There's a lot of things that can and need to be done. Throwing up the hands and saying it's not fair for those on the dole to work is NOT one of them.

How do we all feel about the new "Team Australia" changes proposed by the PM and the Coalition? Quite aside form the fact that the government can't accurately explain what metadata is.
Do we have any issues with the new regulations on Australians visiting suspect areas?
I see from a 60 Minutes ad that was on mute those god awful patents who left the DS boy in Thailand are going to do an interview. I didn't realise their identities were out. Just by the looks of them (creeper old dude, obvious mail order bride) the story gets sadder and weirder. You can bet your ass I'll be tuning in.

You know he's a convicted pedophile right? He did three years for it.

Yes I had heard that, hence my "sadder and weirder" comment.
60 Minutes is on Sundays, isn't it? I should see when it's on.
I couldn't bring myself to watch it. The whole scenario is gross. The interview was all over the radio this morning.
I saw bits on ABC News Breakfast. But I had them muted so I have no idea what they said. I felt it was really low of the ABC to broadcast even those bits of the interview. I really expected better of them, but then it's ratings-garnering gossip, so they might as well.
