Has anyone else seen this movie? DH and I rented it last night and I thought it was well done, and the premise was fascinating. I think it's based on a comic or graphic novel?
The setting is an Earth that has been plunged into an ice age caused by global warning and subsequent human interventions. All life is extinct except for those on a train that constantly runs around the planet. The story is a dystopian haves vs have nots, with the poor that live at the end of the train fighting for better treatment like the first class passengers get. Stars Chris Evans (aka Cap America).
It was very typical dystopian, meaning bleak with a pessimistic take on human behavior/nature. But I can't stop thinking about it! Definitely recommended if you like post-apocalyptic or dystopian sci-fi.

We saw it in the theatre around July 4th. Yes, I think it's a French graphic novel that it's based on. It was mesmerizing while we watching, and a little haunting/thought-provoking afterwards, but in the end it was more the mood and the performances that sold it and not so much the plot. Tilda Swinton was amazing, I wonder if she'll get a nomination for it or if not enough people will have seen it to have her performance be recognized. I had a little crush on Grey, too. What a badass. Although I read something by the director who said that in his mind Grey and Gilliam (the guy John Hurt played, the leader of the rebels) were lovers, and...ew. I loved the strange surreal quality of it, though, and the passage through the different cars.

I kind of agree with you that the plot was the weakest part of the film. The premise, setting, and characters are definitely more what stuck with me. I can't handle much movie violence anyway, so I played on my phone during fight scenes. Tilda Swinton was awesome! I liked the "gatekeeper" guy too, I don't remember his name. I think my favorite scene was the sushi bar, surreal is a good word for it!
