I didn't feel safe talking about this until this article came out. For weeks I've been hearing rumors swirling about the circumstances of the fire on the USS Miami.
Now it turns out investigators think that one of the shipyard workers set the fire on purpose. Hundreds of millions of dollars in damage and so many lives put at risk. It makes me so mad that someone whose job was to help overhaul that submarine would do such a thing. www.navy.mil/submit/display.asp?story_id=68536
Yes, there's always a team on duty in the engine compartment. There can never be nobody on board. They, however, are able to shut themselves in safely.
It's just a bear of a place to fight fire and makes it all the more dangerous for the fire fighters.
