A week ago we adopted a kitty from a family who could no longer keep her due to medical reasons. The kitty is 6 and is super sweet, a little Siamese. We were told she does well with kids, dogs and male cats. I have a dog and a 15 year old male cat. When we brought kitty home I set up food, litter, etc in dd's bedroom and planned to keep her there for the transition phase. She will come out from under the bed for pets and loves attention, but as soon as another animal is in her presence she hides under the bed. For the first few days I did not let her see the other pets. I have slowly tried to introduce the pets, and my boys are over the "who is this?!" phase and are genuinely just wanting to meet her now. But I can not get this little girl to come out! Any ideas of what else I should try? I know a week isn't really that long but I am sad for her that she is just living under a bed.

Give her time. It took my cats several weeks to come out of the bedroom when we moved to a house, and that was with no strange animals. They still spend most of their time in the bedroom lol
Cat vs Cat has some good tips for introducing new pets.
Give it time. They shouldn't really be meeting for about 2 weeks anyway. Also, your kids room isn't a quiet safe place to acclimate. Can you give her her own space?
My dd really only sleeps in there so it is mostly quiet. I could put get in the bathroom but I thought the bedroom would be better. I haven't had a new kitty in like 20 years
Id give it more time. Our dog and cat met just over 2 years ago and the cat still has times where she hides whenever she sees him. But for the most part the just coexist. (They are not BFF or anything like that, that's for sure.)
Thanks again everyone. We are on week 4 now, and new kitty comes out when she knows the other cat is not around. She loves affection and is very sweet. But my old cat (he is almost 15) is pretty big (and not really fat, just big, his dad was a big boy too) and I think is pretty intimidating to the new kitty. To make it harder, the new kitty was declawed by previous owners in her front paws (I know..). So she is somewhat defenseless. With my old cat being, well, old, I didn't think he would really chase after her, but he does. New kitty has not really come out of the room much (I shut the door when we are not home). I notice that at night she tends to want to come out and explore so I will keep old kitty in the bedroom so she can explore without being chased after. Ugh. Poor kitty. I am going to try some of the feliway stuff
