We're adopting a 5 month old Border Collie from a rescue. He gets to come home next week!
Racking my brain on what we may need... so far we have: Crate + bed Food and water bowls Collar + lead Age appropriate things to chew
I haven't picked up food yet as I'm not sure what they're feeding him right now. We'll likely get him some puzzle type treat toys for during the day to keep him occupied. My DH will be working from home next week and I'll be able to take him in to work a few days/week after that.

Poop bags Treats Yogurt or Imodium (the stress of moving into your house could trigger stomach issues, and these things could help) Toys Nail trimmers Toothbrush HW, flea, and tick preventatives
Congrats on the new pup! As the proud owner of a rescued herding dog, my best advice is to get him enrolled in puppy classes immediately, and EXERCISE, EXERCISE, EXERCISE!!! Exercise more than you could ever be imagining right now. Our Cal was a mess unless we did an hour before work, an hour at lunch, and an hour after work, plus epic exercise binges on the weekends. At 8, he's much more mellow these days, but back in the day we were running half marathons together and he wasn't even breaking a sweat.
Nature's Miracle for accidents; extra paper towel Can of pumpkin in case of stomach issues Baby gate, because sometimes you just need a few minutes where puppy isn't underfoot We got a cover for the backseat of the car in case of accidents Brush
That's exciting- congrats! Do you know if he's crate trained? I'd also suggest having a few black Kongs (only the black- the red aren't crate safe anymore) around to stuff for night time in case he needs help settling down, or any other crate time.
Definitely second puppy class- our almost 4mo pups just started advanced obedience and are doing so well (it's hilarious how many people ask us "how'd you get him to do that?" when we're out with them), the socialization benefits are awesome, and it's a great place to learn about agility and rally or something else to chew up some of that boundless BC energy and brainpower.
Right now our guys' (Great Pyr/Lab mixes) favorite "independent toys" are the Jolly Teaser ball, Booda Bones (cotton ropes), the Nylabone that looks like a stick (they also like the bumpy dinos, but, the sticks are #1), and the Jolly Egg is hilarious. The squeaky Kong tennis balls are great, Chuck-it balls (the rubber orange and blue "Ultraballs" and the treat balls) are great for fetch, and they really like the JW iSqueak Baseballs, too.
Thanks ladies! We have a few things working in our favor.. He is crate trained and so far sleeping through the night. He's also being fostered by an agility trainer right now so he's been getting worked with by a pro. There is also an onsite dog park at work so I'll be able to exercise him a few times during the day once he starts coming in with me.
