I have no fucking arguments with modest Mormon dress. I suppose I do in theory but I think those mormon fashion bloggers are like 75% responsible for the sudden explosion in adult yet fashionable but also suited to a mom lifestyle shit that's all over pinterest and such.
I feel like before they came on the scene, you kind of had the choice between professional dress and sweats/jeans. Modest Mormons have brought their A game to looking cute yet being able to change a diaper, chase some children. I ain't mad at them AT ALL.
Agreed. I can't expect everyone to leave their religion completely because their religion does shitty things.
Now, if I heard that she or SA were donating $ to Prop 8 (or insert other anti gay/anti women organization here), it would be another story entirely.
www.mormonwomen.com/2011/06/09/dressed-for-success/ She has an interesting background. I don't necessarily agree with her on all of it but then again, I don't think I'd agree with anyone ever 100% of the time.
I don't understand why this means I can't have a SA dress. I mean have you see the crunchy blogs? The craft mom blogs? Organic montessori educated cotton/hemp diaper bloggers?

If the owners are proper Mormons and handing over 10% of their SA income to the LDS church and the LDS church is donating to prop 8 well then there you go!

This is kind of what they all do.
It doesn't. HJ has a pretty consistent record of avoiding the mormon church.
Personally, my eyes got very rolly that the owner is being presented as a "women can have it all" and "woman who promotes empowerment" when she's supporting a religion that oppresses their female members.
But she's not supporting the mormon church. Is there something I missed about this woman merely being mormon that supports them?
If I actually stock my etsy shop, trust me when I say you are not supporting the Methodist church if you buy from it. This is as insipid as Hobby Lobby claiming paying for birth control is supporting heathens.
This is a level of ridiculous that I cannot comprehend. If I buy patterns from Colette Patterns, am I supporting hippiedom?

YOU PEOPLE NEED TO STOP!
You know this isn't going to happen.
The Mormons are fairly insistent that you tithe. The Methodists don't take the "break the kneecaps" attitude that the Mormons do.

Then you need to stop buying shit anywhere. Because lord knows you cannot control what people do with money after you pay them. I give money to my church. Please remember that before buying a makeup palette from me.
Or really, stop spending money at all considering how much of it eventually makes it way around to going into the strip club and help conduct cocaine into noses.

You shouldn't buy patterns. Only order them online and print yourself on old envelopes with ink from vegetables grown in your garden, lest you kill trees for your sewing habits.

I will take the same position I took on the chik fillet (or however you spell their name) thread.
You can buy whatever and wherever you like! This is about where I choose to spend my money and I don't expect anyone else to feel the same way.

Were the Methodists actively trying to sway prop 8?

You are getting too upset about how I choose to spend my money! I don't care what you do with yours!

Southern Baptists do. So if you know an individual business owner is of a particular affiliation, are you going to stop patronizing their shops?
Jews tithe as well though I think they call it something else. Is anyone giving up the local deli in light of the recent issues with Israel?
If this woman were stating that ten percent of her profits were going directly to the Mormon church, I would understand it. But I'm sure not everyone she employs is a Mormon and I'm sure it's only a portion of the business's entire proceeds that go into her pocket. But people are choosing the limit how someone can make a fairly honest, innocuous living because of their religious affiliation and how they *might* spend their income?

No but many of them unfortunately continue to be involved in supporting the BSA's shitty ass policies on gays. And on equality for gay couples in general. Many congregations are supportive within the UMC but many are not.

you totally can. Her clothes are super cute.
My problem is that I see a big gap between discussing the empowerment of women and required modesty. If her philosophy were just "I want to have really professional, sharp, classy looks so women can get taken seriously," I would be like <). But I got the vibe from reading what she said that her philosophy is "I want to have really professional, classy looks to help women be modest because God."

No. Although there's some fuckery going on with the General Council that needs to be worked out before I decide to leave the church. I think we'll probably see a split in the Methodist churches in the next 5 years or so.

You do care. Or rather you would if I opened up a website and started selling things.
And no, it's not the same as Chik Fil A. It really isn't. It kind of makes you a bigot here. She's a mormon therefore she must be an asshole. It's not at all possible she might feel the Mormon church is wrong nor could she feel that way in the future. It's not at all possible to be a member of a church or organization you feel is making the wrong stand and acting within the church to help turn that tide, even if in a small way.
Yes, if I don't agree with them. My money, my choice, and hey since this is a free forum, you get to hear about it. Yay for you.
Then I assume you are no longer a member of the United Methodist Church.
Also, are you planning to start researching makeup? I wouldn't want you to be inconsistent.
I'm part of a growing group within the Methodist church to change the actions of the general council.
And as you clearly skipped in the last big thread, I did. I'm good. The brands that I use have taken steps to not use the mica from mines in India where child labor occurs. But thanks for watching out for me.

I don't understand why that's anything more than eyeroll worthy. Or any less valid. It's what she believes. It's not as if it's peppered all over her website or that the tone of her sight or anything else on her site implies she feels anyone who doesn't agree is hellbound and a half.
Some of my favorite recently pinned fall looks (I know some of these are huge):
One of my pinterest tricks it to pick something from my closet and type it into the Pinterest search box. i.e. "Navy Blazer" and then find something I have in my closet that can work with what pin I've liked.
I want to follow all of your pinterest boards. (Said in the least creepiest way possible...I admire your style.)
Nope. You're just assuming any mormon must hate gays. Yanno, because the angel Moroni.
And now I'm mad that I'm 'defending' a Mormon when I should be cracking jokes about the moron in Moroni and how my fingers always type moron instead of mormon and then I have to fix it. LIKE EVERY TIME!
