What a great book! I had procrastinated on reading it because I knew the topic and thought it would be too sad to deal with. I'm really glad I did read it, though.
I thought it was really good, but I also felt that it didn't quite live up to all the hype around it. But then, from the hype I was expecting it to be the greatest book ever written.
I thought it was great. I loved "It would be a honor to have my heart broken by you."
I liked that part as well.
I did think it ended abruptly. I was kind of hoping the book would end mid sentence like her favorite book did. And we would be left wondering if she had died of cancer, or what have you.

I really enjoyed the book. I thought it ended abruptly as well but I guess we really didnt need to know how her life ended. It was just kind of matter of time.
Am I the only one who didn't think this book was anything special? Maybe it was just too hyped up for me.
It was definitely just okay for me and I didn't even read that much hype.
Glad I'm not the only one. Maybe I just don't understand the appeal of YA fiction, but I thought the dialogue was unrealistic for teenagers (similar to the critiques of Dawson's Creek back in the day) the relationship between Augustus and Hazel to be forced, and I thought the character of Issac was too underdeveloped to serve as an appropriate sidekick for the couple.
Actually, the more I think about this, the more I wonder why everyone else liked it so much. Someone actually told me this book was 'life-changing'. I should go back and ask her why.

I agree with most of this. I have heard lots of people say it was life changing too. Really? It was an enjoyable fluffy read, but nothing more than that.

All of this. Also, I listened to the audiobook, and I felt like I could hear John Green in every word. Even though it was a female voice for Hazel, it still sounded very "this is a mid-30 year old man pretending to be a teenage girl" to me. I did get a little sad at the end, but I was also ready for the book to be over by then, so I was okay.

I actually flipped to the last page to check at one point.
I loved the story. Something about it just struck the right chords with me. I don't usually cry at book, but this one turned me in to a blubbering mess.
A good read, but not life changing...can totally see it being made into a movie.
This is how I felt. I enjoyed it, but my life wasn't changed. I think he's a good writer for today's youth to read. This was my first Green book. I wasn't disappointed, but I wasn't amazed.
