In Monterey, check out Cannery Row - lots of yummy restaurants and a viewing deck to see the otters. (so cute!) If you like aquariums, the Monterey Bay aquarium is nice. If you like wandering, there is a nice trail along the water from Monterey to Pacific Grove (I used to live in PG). It's really pretty. Oh and at cannery row/the pier they have those little peddal carts that you can rent. OMG so fun. They don't steer well, so you'll get a good core workout from belly laughing until you hurt.
I love the Crow's Nest. One of my favorite things to do is have dinner on their patio at sunset. You can also a little cruise chardonnay.cernesystems.com/index.php

We really enjoyed Alvarado Brewing Co. They had good beer and good food. Mucky Duck was also fun in a locals and live music kind of way. Both are on Alvarado a short walk from Cannery Row.

If you have a full day, the winery trolley in Monterey is awesome. Cannery Row is really nice to walk around. Monterey is beautiful, one of my favorite cities.

All of my stuff is Monterey/Carmel...
The Wine Trolley in Monterey is great. The Mucky Duck is a total meat market, steer clear unless you want to get groped. Lallapalooza on Alvarado has yummy steak bites and great beer. Peter B's brewpub is also good for beer, as is Crown and Anchor (Youngs Double Chocolate Stout - OMG) If you go into Carmel (hint: go into Carmel), Vesuvios is downtown by the park and has a sweet rooftop patio. Mission Ranch by the Carmel Mission has awesome food and live music. Cannery Row is a fun walk and the Monterey Bay Aquarium is AWESOME. Adventures by the Sea rents kayaks and does tours in the harbor, you may be able to find a deal on groupon. If you're taking the kid/s - Dennis the Menace Park is fun and also My Museum (both in Monterey) - mymuseum.org
