Birth story: On Wed 7/18/12 my O.B. doc called ~1:40pm to say I had failed my newest CBC blood panel from 7/17 with elevated liver enzymes & super low platelets (37k) = bad.
Doc said to get over to L&D for "monitoring" ::::ahemBigLIEcough:::: (I later figured out this was for delivery, and I had developed HELLP syndrome.) I arrived ~2:30pm and checked myself in, & MrB showed up at the same time. I was shown to a room in the O.R. area (oh crap, clue #2), where I was put on the baby monitor. Cam was rockin it in there, but my next blood panel came back even worse (platelets 31k). I think this was now 'go-time'. My OB called in one of her partners and she, new doc (delivering O.R. doc) & my perinatologist decided I was having a baby ASAP!
Cameron T. (MrB's FN) BAMF was born via Cesarean section at 6:25PM 7/18/12 weighing in at 6lbs & 18'' long. He has a head full of hair and MrB's chin/jawline!
He will be in the NICU at least "2 weeks". There is no definitive date for release, but goals he has to achieve (feeding and breathing) before he comes home. I am not allowed to drive for those 2 weeks so I just figure it out each day how I get over to him to sit with him and hold him. So far, MrB has been working 1/2 days, so I pump, I sleep and I try to rest up so I can go see him and hold him. He's so sweet and perfect, just small. His weight is solid for a 34-weeker (he's the biggest baby in the NICU) but his lil lungs need time to finish developing.
Congrats! I read your story on FB. What a crazy birth story. Guess Cam just was ready to be out. Hopefully he is a champ in the NICU and gets to come home soon. Let me know if there is anything I can do for you!
Congrats! But wow, I would be very upset about the lying. I hope you contact the administration of the hospital to tell them about this. It is not OK to lie to your patients to get them to do what you want them to do.
What a crazy story. Why do you think they lied to you about why you were going to the hospital? That is so weird to me!
I agree! I would be so pissed that I was blatantly lied to!
However, I am sure having your little guy "here" makes up for it.
Congratulations BAMF and welcome Cameron! Here's to a short, uneventful stay in the NICU.
So I wouldn't panic. Everyone was very calm and reassuring but my B.S. meter was going off. It took less than 4 hours between the phone call and him being born. The docs were REALLY worried about me. Can was fine in there.
I basically had a Vampire Placenta that had begun to attack my liver (mmmm, pate! : and it was gonna get REALLY bad, really fast if I did not get the placenta out. = Have baby immediately.
Super cute little guy! Glad everything is ok and hope his nicu time is short.
I wouldn't think of it as a lie - after all, you DID get monitored and another test was run. Sure, your OB knew where this was likely headed, but it wasn't a done deal until the 2nd test results came back.
congrats! there are a lot of us August 2012 moms having early babies it seems. Great weight for such an early birth! I am glad everything is okay with you and him, I bet he will be out of there in no time!
Congratulations! I'm glad they caught it! I'm impressed that he was over 6 lbs at 34 weeks! I had pre-e and delivered at 37 weeks, 1 day and DS was only 5.5 lbs, but 21 inches long.
Congratulations on your baby's birth! I had HELLP too, and a surprise preemie. That is a super-low platelet level that you had.
Best of luck on recovering from your ordeal. The mag takes a big toll on your body, and I also ended up with multiple transfusions. You will heal and feel better! I'm so glad that your doctor had done bloodwork and that they knew what they were looking for!
Feel free to PM me if you want to chat.
ETA: I missed the birthweigh initially -- 6 lbs is awesome for that gestational age and will very much work in little guy's favor. Your body did good!
