DH just took our 10 year old cat to the emergency vet. We have 2 male cats and sometimes they fight. We were putting the kids to bed tonight and heard the cats get in a bad fight. We came downstairs to check and one cat had blood on his paws and his mouth was open in a weird way. He can't close his mouth and I think his jaw may be dislocated. He wasn't crying out or meowing in pain but it was bothering him for sure.
Waiting to hear what the vet says. Has anyone had this happen with a pet?
Thanks cmeon. It turns our his jaw is not dislocated. He's got periodontal disease and one of his top "fangs" became dislodged. He's in surgery right now to have the tooth extracted. We also found out he has a heart murmur so he requires special monitoring. Between the emergency vet last night, emergency surgery today, xrays, IVs, anesthesia, teeth cleaning while he's under...we're at $1550. OMG. I had no idea this would cost this much but I can't put him down over a bum tooth.
Aww, poor guy- poor melly-wallet, dumb old tooth. I am glad it wasn't something worse, though- a jaw dislocation would be pretty painful, I imagine. I hope he's already coming around (or totally done).
