shopping for gender neutral baby clothes

It's difficult to find in many stores. Gap/Old Navy have little to none. I see that Carters tends to have a bit of yellow and green.

Where else have you found gender neutral clothing for newborn-12 months?

We were "team green." I found a bunch of basic neutral stuff at Old Navy- and it wasn't even green or yellow. It had a bunch of geometric prints and features prominently in almost every early baby pic of DD.

This could depend on the season, though.

I also found cute stuff at various sample sales in NYC- some Petite Bateau print stuff and other pricy-ish brands deeply discounted.

I've just bought a few small things from garage sales to make it through the first few weeks. I figure after the baby is born, I can do some more shopping for boy or girl clothes. Plus, people may bring you things as well.

I really wouldn't buy very much - maybe a couple onesies and sleepers.

I bought a few things off the Baby Gap clearance racks--their holiday stuff is pretty GN, and super cheap. I bought Christmas onesies in January, and Valentine's stuff in February. It usually tends to be on the boy side, I've found.

I know this is annoying advice, but try not to buy clothes. We only bought a few things (maybe 6-8 items total) and I already have too many clothes, and I haven't even had a shower or given birth yet. I've returned some things already. Between family and friends giving us hand-me-downs and new gifts, I am pretty sure I can already clothe this kid for his entire first year and then some already.

If you're planning on cloth diapering, I found that that was a great way to get the urge to buy stuff out, since most people don't give you those as gifts! I started building my stash early on.

It's not for me. I have a friend from high school pregnant with twins, and is not finding out the sex of the babies.

I agree with not getting clothes if you can help it. It's a sweet gesture but it's the default for so many people that everyone I know winds up with way too much clothing.

Could you get your friend books instead? I would prefer books by a lot at this point, and the kids will be able to use them for a lot longer!

She already has 2 boys and lots of gear. I thought clothing might be a good gift. Especially if she ends up with girls. Most of what she has now is very "boy". I'm looking for soft greens and yellows. I've had my eyes open for a few weeks with little luck.

I suppose I could get books, but I see clothing as being more useful, as she has already had 2 kiddos go through what she currently has.

I agree with Brie, we got way too many clothes from people. Some only worn once or not at all. And by the time they may need more clothes they are going to want to dress them for their gender. I would go the book route.

I liked receiving clothing, as long as it was my style. You know how she dresses her other kids, so you caN be the judge. I'll definitely admit to reselling stuff that I didn't want (pink velour anyone?) at consignment sales with the tags still on.

Sorry for being snippy. I just really got annoyed the week before last when I asked a valid question about exercise routines during pregnancy, and there was a snarky comment about how I was only 2 seconds pregnant. As if a question about health during early pregnancy is any less relevant, merely because I had just found out.

I do plan, which is why we've started to buy books!

I'm going to disagree with the not buying clothes. We were team green and got almost no clothes before she was born. I found most people wanted to buy gendered clothes. The only clothes we got were white onesies and a football onesie. I had to buy all my newborn sleepers. I would recommend buying sleepers, because once people know what the sex is, they're going to buy outfits.

I had the best luck with Carters, but Gap does usually have few gender neutral collections. I also know that Hanna Anderssen has some great neutral pieces. I also bought a lot of boy clothes because for some reason blue is more neutral in my mind.

I love H's style. Where do you buy her clothes? I'm not big on "foof" for girls, but the gender specific items you buy are tasteful, and beautiful.

Pekkles pajamas from Costco are all pretty gender-neutral. I mean, a cowboy alligator is equally nonsensical for a boy or a girl. And they're cute, cheap, and easy to return if she doesn't like/need them.

Throw in a pack of diapers (bonus points if you know what brand she likes)

If you're going to get clothes, make sure they're seasonally appropriate, too! I just got a 3 month old summer outfit as a gift...and our baby will be 3 months old in December when it's freezing.

Thankfully we have a Carters store not even 5 minutes from my house, so in a few months I will start scoping it out for things like pjs several sizes too big. I wish we were closer to Gap outlets, though. I shopped their for my sister's kids quite a bit when they were tiny.

This is what I would do.

We didn't find out the sex with either baby. DD just wore DS's old neutral-ish newborn stuff until I got a chance to shop and the gifts started pouring in. Grandmas go crazy shopping for baby girls. Cray. Zee.

I have gotten some gender neutral clothing from Kohl's and Target as gifts. I registered for a few towel blankets(trendlab)/sleep sacks (halo)/swaddle blankets (summer infant)on Target and Amazon that are green/sage. We are finding out the sex, but I wanted the larger and smaller everyday items to be gender neutral for whenever baby #2 shows up.

How about getting her a photo session with the kiddos as a gift or asking someone to go in it with you? BTW I have no idea how much this would cost so it might or might not be feasible.
