Applegate makes a no sugar added low sodium bacon. I find it at bjs. A regular grocery store like wegmans might be able to get it but mine doesn't carry that one.
I will confess that I had bought some that I thought was sugar free and wasn't and ate it anyway. I figured if that was the only added sugar I was getting in a day (and really the only food that felt like a "treat" then I'd be ok).
The bacon thing sort of enrages me. I mean, dates and larabars are compliant and have a TON of sugar but the Applegate organic bacon that literally has *zero grams* sugar is not because it contains like .000003% cane sugar.
I understand the line in the sand is "added" sugar but realistically one could totally fuel the sugar beast with a lot of compliant food when that's just not going to happen with bacon.
Bacon rage!!!!!!!!!!
There has been a LOT of debate about this rule in the past and I'm totally on your side. I am absolutely not eating bacon for the sugar buzz.
