We are just leaving the vet. They think Emma had a stroke or a seizure this morning. She was throwing up and can't walk when she tries she just rolls. Her blood work was good but they are keeping her the rest of the day to give her Valium and steroids. I'm so sad. She was crying because she wanted to move and couldn't. You could tell she was in so much pain
sierramist03, I didn't mention this in my earlier reply, but I am pretty sure my eldest cat had a stroke last year. He woke up from a nap and all of sudden started acting like he was drunk. He couldn't walk and kept falling over and when he managed to stand up he would walk into something. We took him to the vet but they couldn't give us a straight answer. They treated him as though he had an inner ear infection. A year later, he has recovered from whatever it was. He does not have the balance he did before (being a cat, he had excellent balance) but he has adjusted and goes about his life as though nothing is wrong. I tell you all this because if it turns out Emma did have a stroke, she can definitely recover and go on living an active life for years.

Thank you! They thought at first she had an ear infection too but then the other vet said he thought more towards stroke

Update they are keeping her overnight. They gave her the shots this morning but she's still not doing any better. She is still unable to walk or even stand. Her head is still cocked backward. The vet said we have 72 hours to see if she gets better. If she doesn't we have to make a decision.

I'm sorry your dog is unwell. How old is she?
It might be vestibular syndrome. . Watch some of the videos about it on YouTube, and see if it sounds similar to your dogs symptoms and behavior. From the little you've said, it sounds like it might be the case.
The good thing about vestibular is it's painless and completely goes away fate several weeks. Read up on it, and bring it up to your vet before you make any decisions.

She is almost 9. We have a friend of the family who's a vet I spoke with her last night and she always mention vestibular.

We thought my Rottie had it. They said the important thing was to get her to eat, so I got canned chicken and hand fed it to her for several weeks. Sometimes she would do rice, beef and veggies, too. But mostly just the chicken, with the water it came with.
My my girl ended up having encephalitis, but hand feeding her was really helpful in keeping her going those first few weeks until we got a real diagnosis.
My BT growing up had a vestibular issue with similar symptoms. We got him eating (brought in bacon for him) and then one day he just stood up like nothing had happened. I hope you get good news

The vet said Emma had made remarkable improvement from yesterday over the night. She was sitting up and her head tilt is better. She is still unable to stand without help and very wobbly. She is drinking water. They gave her another shot this morning and said if she keeps improving we should be able to bring her home tonight. Attached is a picture I took at the vet. My poor girl was in so much pain
I'm so glad to hear there's been improvement - that is a good sign!! But my heart broke in two when I saw the photo. Poor, sweet girl! :-( I hope she continues to improve.
Poor baby! Squishy had the head tilt too. Once he was eating/drinking he came home and just chilled on his bed. Then all of the sudden stood up and started walking again. Praying for Emma!

She has worsen and back to how she was yesterday. She is responding well to the medication so thy are afraid she had another episode we will likely be referred to a university. They are unable to do an MRI at the clinic.
