Yes. We have sensors on every door and window, as well as glass break censors in each room (added later on). I want to say it was $800+$500. We pay $26/mo.
We had 1 break in, and got wiped out. Then got the alarm. Since then, one break in that was whatever they could grab in the 30 seconds before alarm went off (MacBook and jewelry box), the the third they smashed the window in the master bath, glass break went off, and they ran.
If def say the alarm helps!
I also would get glass breaks, Bc they may try to break the glass and crawl thru, like the third time above.
All 3 were in broad day light (11-4 pm) and 2 were right through the front door/window.
I don't live in a bad area, just private, so prime location (no direct neighbors).
right now, no. we used to though, and are considering getting it again. our old system worked great. once, DH was cleaning the fireplace, and ashes went EVERYWHERE. surprisingly, it set off the fire alarm. it called both our cell phones, but neither of us heard them (I was fast asleep, apparently with my deaf side up), so the fire department came to check on us. that was a little embarrassing for H.
Alarms really aren't all that expensive even with the monitoring with ADT. The main way they get you is they make you sign a 2 or 3 year contract.
I had an alarm installed on a previous row house and I can't remember exactly how much it was, but I know it wasn't that expensive. Maybe between $50-$100. Then, we just had an alarm activated in my place now (see robbery post below lol) and again I'm not exactly sure how much installation was because my landlord paid for it, but I saw the bill and remember thinking, wow that's not too expensive for installation. I think maybe $80.
Our landlord told us it was something like $45 per month.
I'm pretty sure the people who robbed us had been watching for several days to figure out our patterns when we were not home and to notice that we didn't have an alarm at the time. So obviously there is no way to know, but I'm pretty sure an alarm would've stopped us from getting robbed.
We have ADT Pulse, which we can arm/disarm and monitor via our phones. Love that. I think monitoring is about $50 a month. i want to say installation was $200 or less, but i don't remember because H was here for it and set it all up.
We have a two story with a walkout basement. The second floor has no sensors, because someone would have to get through the first floor to get there.
Main floor - three exterior doors with sensors and a motion sensor in the family room that points toward the stairs (so, if someone broke a window [only one of which could be accessed without a ladder] they wouldn't get far without triggering the motion sensor.
Basement - there's a sensor on the sliding door, and a glass break sensor on the windows.
if you decide to go with a system, the install tech should have some pretty good suggestions about how to best cover doors, windows, and open spaces.

$27. The house was new construction and came with it no don't know how much it cost.
It's been annoying at times, because it can be ultra-sensitive and go off during bad storms or if the power goes out, I get a call. If I don't answer And give the password, police come. I actually had them cons lower rh sensitivity at one point
On one hand it's great, there's so good monitoring, on they other find myself questioning whether to put it on some days, depending on the weather.

Yes. We pay $16/month with no contract. We bought the equipment up front for $500. We use Safeguard Security through our local cable company. We have 3 door alarms and 1 motion detector in the great room (open floor plan).
I don't but I'm thinking about it. There have been break ins in the neighborhood and we are the only ones on our block with no system. We rent though so that's a complication.
My brother has a cool system with a company called Vivint. It's got a touch screen panel, automatic locks on the doors, sensors on the windows and some other bells and whistles. They can control it through their phone.

We don't, but are considering getting one. We live in a safe neighborhood and have a great guard dog, but I would like to have the fire monitoring since she is home alone so much. That is one of my biggest fears. The theft protection would be an added bonus. We just need to find a company that's reasonable.

Who do you have? $27 seems like a good deal.
Ours is super sensitive, too. We have the glass break sensors and that shit is unreal. I've closed a cupboard and it went off. I've dropped a piece of ice on the floor and it's gone off. I slapped my H's ass before sex and that shit went off! lllllllol
We got ours when H worked overnight and I love it. We pay $55 a month which is apparently really high compared to others, but of course we're in a contract.
We have ADT and pay $50/month. We have sensors on all our doors and windows which has come in handy for our little escape artists. It chimes when opened even when it's not set to go off so it's a double bonus for us.
I love the security of setting it at night and I know the police will be at my door in minutes proven by the couple times I didn't shut the doors properly after I left and having to run home to meet the officers. ((((Totally embarrassing)))
One thing I love about our ADT set-up is that we can have separate codes. So when David's a teenager, there's no sneaking out. He'll have a passcode for when he comes home from school but when we go to bed at night, we'll put in a separate code he doesn't know. Makes sneaking out not an issue.
I have a little old lady that lives across the street and sits in her window with binoculars.
One time, we had a tree service come over and she called my DH and told him there were some "Eye-talian" looking guys in our backyard.
:?
Free of charge!
She must be my dad's long-lost sister. I know nobody else IRL that pronounces it this way, and he too is nosy and needs a hobby in his retirement. We're only an hour from MI so perhaps we can find a joint project?

$18/month but we had to pay over $2k for the install. We aren't locked into a contract though and its through a local Mom & Pop shop, not a national brand. We use it every time we leave the house and at night.
We have Simplisafe. We paid about $800 for the equipment but you can buy less or more. We also have fire, CO2, water censor and a couple panic buttons.
Installation was free because you do it yourself -its simple- theres pull tabs you peel and stick on the wall/window. We pay $25/month. There's a lesser plan for 15.
We've never had a break in so Im unsure how quick the response will be. When you test the equipment, they call pretty fast (<1 min) so that's assuring.
So I grew up in the hood but now live in the 'burbs and it freaks me out. Theres space between the houses and everyone has central air so the chance of someone hearing you scream is low. I also have a dog. And I want a gun.
I really want one. My coworkers house was broken into this week and is so scary. They actually had an alarm system that was activated but the person breaking in knew to break in a second floor window and go in that way (I guess 2nd floors usually aren't alarmed)
Our house is wired for it from the previous owners but we didn't activate service. My husband bought an ADT sign off ebay and stuck it outside so people think we have one.

We do have a system (although not all of the wiring is finished...DH installed it, and the obvious access points and easier to reach areas are all wired, he still has to work on/figure out how to wire some of the more difficult areas) and use it regularly both when we go out and over night. But it's not hooked up to any central monitoring system. We can have it call our cell phones when it gets tripped but haven't programmed that yet, either.
