Been searching for months for the perfect dog after I had to put my chessie down from kidney disease.
Picked Duke up over the weekend, he is a 9 month old German Short haired pointer- been interesting since he has never been in a home for too long before, so potty training has been interesting...But he loves hanging out around the horses, the farm, our other dog meatball and the local pond. Just a ball of energy...took my eye off of him for 1 minute and he chewed my office rug- joys of puppy.

Good luck! German shorthairs are always balls of energy! I love them but could never keep up with one. At least it sounds like you have lots of property.
aww how cute -- was Chessie a bulldog? Is that he/she in that pic on your profile? I was just curious -- we have 2 that are the laziest dogs ever. lol
our chessie was a cheaspeake bay retriever..her name was "cleo" The old english bulldog is meatball. He is a great dog! 2 ACL replacements..he is now 8 and very active with the GSP, and was always trying to keep up with Cleo.
As you can see below, Meatball is very lazy at times. The one he is in the bucket was on a hot day- he likes to just hop in.
Sorry to hear about Cleo. Meatball -- OMG, how cute. I'll work from home sometimes and one of our bulldogs will stay asleep in bed until about 3pm when he finally wants to get up to go potty. He will also NOT get up from bed unless he hears the food going into the bowl. And he cries at about 10pm if you don't go to the bedroom with him because he wants to go to bed. LAZIEST dog ever and we love him to death!

Meatball whines as well. He hates when we lock him out of the bedroom. Anything before 7am is too early for him . So he has been up with us as Duke gets up. I can tell he is saying "what are you guys doing to me?" He is truly the best though, little drooly..but a good dog. This morning I left him in his bed, he refused to get up.
too cute! I remember when we got our Meatloaf (perfect with Meatball!) he would just pee as he ran around the house because he was too engrossed in playing to go outside. grrrr. Eventually we had the rugs steam cleaned and he never did it again. Thank goodness.
I LOVE GSP's! My friend has one....And she is a handful. Be prepared for a lot of getting into the garbage, and coming home and finding a hole eaten through your drywall! LOL
