Yesterday I spent a few hours at the vet (actually I took him to 2 different vets for two opinions) and it looks like my dog has cancer And a pretty aggressive form too. I am sad. We got him when we moved to Texas 10 years ago and I hate that he is sick. He isn't acting any differently but he has about 30 tumors (some that have even burst) on his belly/legs/feet/back. These tumors just popped out of no where.
I am waiting on further testing to know if surgery is the best way to go or if we should let him live out his days without the stress and recovery of surgery. I should know more next week.
Poor puppy. He was a good boy yesterday, they had to remove two tumors with local anesthetic. He did a good job dealing with all the prodding and poking.
Is he the same dog that was having some issues, maybe a year ago now. Seizures, maybe?
No, that was another dog We ended up having to put her down about a year and a half ago. She was a good dog too. We got those her around the same time as we got this dog.
Oh, and BTW, we have two other dogs in addition to those two. All have been strays except for Lucky (the dog who has cancer). We live in the country and there is a dog population problem out here. We really can't afford to have any more dogs but I can't help and take them in. We just recently took in one who was hit by a car. She couldn't put any weight on her back two legs, which made walking hard for her But after many vet visits (and hundreds of dollars later) she is now able to walk, and even run, on all fours.
And the other stray was bit by a rattlesnake (I am assuming.....and the vet is too) and that was a few hundred dollars to treat.
We just recently had one of those stays fixed and vaccinated, which wasn't cheap. We are saving to get the other stray fixed and vaccinated too.
Oh, and flea and heart worm meds aren't cheap either.
It seems the "free" dogs are the more expensive ones, LOL. I hate to complain about money but these dogs have run our bank account dry lately!
You have such a good heart, Kathy. How lucky for those dogs that they found you.
What she said. So sad to see your dogs sick but a steak dinner and he won't have a care in the world. You're awesome to take in these dogs and save them from the hungry Mexicans

It's true! One of the Mexicans walking through our property ate a cat, like 2 years ago. I found it skinned in the front yard! I even took a picture to prove that it happened, LOL, since I was sure nobody would believe my H and I. It was totally gross and something that was done with a knife and not teeth from a wild animal. Poor kitty But I guess if you are desperate, you'll eat anything........

But poor dogs. They didn't ask to be strays.
Oh geez, sorry. I couldn't remember if it was the same dog. I'm sorry. You're doing a good thing. I'm sure those dogs appreciate you taking them in & lived many happy years with you. It sucks that dogs have such a short life.
Sorry to hear the news about your doggy. That must be tough. I can't imagine what it is like to lose a pet or deal with a sick one. This is my first dog and I dread when that day comes around.
